Reply from HTC:

Thank you for contacting HTC.

My name is *** and I am a Technical Support Agent for the HTC Written Team.

I’m sorry to hear that you are experiencing difficulties with the 'apply' button on the personalise screen.

The reason for this is software error within the device.

To resolve this, I would like you to perform the following steps:

This will reset your home screens.

- From the home screen
- Menu
- settings
- applications
- manage all applications
- all
- HTC sense
- clear data / clear cache
- force close

If you can then soft reset the phone. This means to take out the battery while the phone is on, wait 10 seconds, put the battery back in and start up the phone.

If you still get the issue i will need you to do a hard reset. The reset process will restore the phone back to factory settings. This means that all your data will be removed from the phone except for data stored on the SD Card, SIM card or online services. HTC Sync software can provide you support to move media content from the phone to your PC. I would also recommend taking out the SIM and SD card to confirm data on these is safe.

The parts in bold do not fill me with confidence !!

A hard reset failed to solve the problem anyway.
My phone does in fact seem to have an entire vertical line where the display breaks on the right-hand side of the screen. Replacement coming tomorrow.
