ok, thanks, that is what i have been doing. now just re-formatted sd. i uninstalled htc sync just in case (tho i don't think it has held me up thus far). now trying again. thanks everyone, hoping to get this done so can go to bed! lol

Just try running it again... it can be tricky. Sometimes you need a few tries.

Reboot PC and phone, it may help.

HTC sync can cause issues as well.

You need both ADB and fastboot on your PC. (cleanflash tool has them included in its download. so you can download it and have them both)

The lower pin can be hard to get to, just hold it on that one and then tap the other pin as instructed.

Take the battery out and go into fastboot then plug it in when your computers booted agin then run controlbear

BTW... there will be no mistaking when you need to do the "wire trick".

It flashes "do the wire trick" on your screen repeatedly until it registers the first tap.

It didn't work like that till an hour ago it would just get stuck before it or it would flash to do the wire trick like 3 times then quit

yeah I saw the wire thing, just didn't get it. But why does the phone boot to the black htc screen? On the video the guy is on the fastboot screen.
