I guess we need someone like andy572 (real big shame that he abandoned phoenix rom) to really maximize gingerbread(without depending on cm7)

of course you are free to compile your own builds, but do not expect support.

Totally in favour of your decision. There is no sense in compiling jb for p500. Hardware limitations are a lot.
