xl has the nicer screen but if you just want the one with better battery life, the s should be it for you. imho though, it doesn't add enough battery to forsake that gorgeous screen, but that's me.
lg incite-sucked --> htc pure-rocked --> iphone 4-sucked --> captivate-rocked --> atrix-rocked --> samsung note was ok --> htc one x rocks AND iconia a500 rocks so far

The one S would have been flawless to me if it came with a 720p screen. Love its
compact design, but the one X should be the clear choice here.
Current Device(s): White Galaxy Nexus & At&t One X .

i don't have one but from what i've read from peter, it's looking like 30 days of standby, lol. seriously though, i'd say the s has maybe 10-15% more life battery wise. the x costs the same. unless you find a 4.7" screen phone to big (which is possible, i sold my note for this reason) then get the x. just trust me on this...

The One X/XL is the better phone by design. While the One X is HTC's flagship device for this year, the One S is merely HTC's midrange offering. Which is too bad, because if HTC had given the One S a better display similar to the One X, as well as the other features they've stripped out I think I'd.actually prefer the slightly smaller One S. At the very least I would have given it serious consideration.
