on method 3.
on step 5 i cant start another adb shell session untill the tablet gets to the lock screen, is that normal??
i then enter:dd if=/sdcard/recoveryblob of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4
and this appears straight away:
8860+1 records in
8860+1 records out
4536396 bytes transferred in 1.718 secs (2640509 bytes/sec)

no 3-10 minute wait??
i then type exit then adb reboot and the tablet boots as normal?
really confused, been trying for the last 2 hours with no joy please help me

samuelson,

You may already have cwm recovery installed. Just boot you TF into recovery to check or to do next step in method 3 (flash superuser+su).

Thumbs up Thank you!!!!
Some days ago .21 came OTA on my TF101, and - oohps - it unrooted my device.
After some googling I found this guide. It took me about 50 minutes to collect all files needed, and about five minits to unroot my device again following method 3.
It worked perfect!!!
Thank you for this guide!

Chalk up another one. Obtained .15 BLOB from a mirror in one of the responses in this thread. Down from .21 to .15 using option 2, used sparkyroot + rootkeeper, OTA took it back to .21 and root was restored perfectly.

Thank you sir. You are a legend.

The only checkbox that was marked was the one telling me that the filesystem supports root backups.

So Rootkeeper was a fail for me even though I temporarily unrooted.

Sorry to hear OTA rootkeeper didn't work for you. It worked fine for me going from WW .15 to .21 but I didn't temp unroot for the OTA update. Root restored and confirmed OK on .21.

Confirming my B50 tf101 device successfully rooted directly from .21 firmware using method 3! No downgrade or wiping needed! :)

HELPP
Guys I did everything for method 2, and all went great until the point where I enter the command and wait 3-10 minutes for xxxxxx bytes. instead it just gave me a new command prompt line like it had previously and rebooted and now my Asus is stuck cycling in its boot cycle over and over. I can't even turn it off. This is my first endeavor into android and I just got it yesterday.

I was trying to downgrade to .17 from .21

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Hi

I downgraded fro .21 to .17 using method 3.
I fully rooted.
Now when I try to update OTA I get this:

Any suggestion to get the update and avoid this message?

TF101 is my model.

Thanks
Vittorio
