GB is a pretty good android version.. very solid I'd say. But I wanted something different so thats why Im testing ICS.

So far its been good .. so I'll give it a long try to see how it goes.

I'm new to Android and the captivate. Ive been using it for a week and have flashed it 3 times now.

This is the boat I'm in. I've resolved to sticking with cm7 nightlies. Even though my incoming calls are silent on most answers it's still better than sod and reboots. I'm just waiting on the SGS III at this point to decide what I want to jump to once all the prices even out and I see how AT&T decides to tier all the Galaxy phones.

Indeed. Currently 2.3.7 I believe.

Edit: They're actually more like weeklies now as changes have greatly slowed, but they're still available on the site when built.

You could try flashing a different modem to see if that helps.
It really depends on your area but I flashed the UGKC1 from the i9000 on my i897 and had decent luck (from New England area).

I've been testing a lot of different modem, from here http://soggycashew.weebly.com/cm7miui--ics-modems.html

But totally lost signal from time to time and only fix that restarting the phone, can you send me a link of the cm7 nighty you use?

Through a long, convoluted process I ended up going back to stock (KK4, flashing to CM9, then going back to CM7, restoring a nandroid, and flashing the latest nightly over top). Before all that I was using JL2 I think. It got better signal than others, but the dead-air-on-answer problem was more prevalent. After the whole flashing mess I'm on KG3 and the signal seems good without having every call be dead air. I'm going to ride this modem out a while and see if it holds up, but I'm 98% certain this phone will go to its grave on cm7. It's just too stable.

The nightly I'm using is http://get.cm/get/2CL . If you want to browse a list of all the available official downloads for Captivate, head here: http://get.cm/?device=captivatemtd .

I was using Euroskanks' kangs for a long time with good results, but Makelegs has understandably moved on to just cm9. I hear there aren't many cherries looming for GB anyway.
