After the whole flashing mess I'm on KG3 and the signal seems good without having every call be dead air. I'm going to ride this modem out a while and see if it holds up, but I'm 98% certain this phone will go to its grave on cm7. It's just too stable.

The nightly I'm using is http://get.cm/get/2CL . If you want to browse a list of all the available official downloads for Captivate, head here: http://get.cm/?device=captivatemtd .

I was using Euroskanks' kangs for a long time with good results, but Makelegs has understandably moved on to just cm9. I hear there aren't many cherries looming for GB anyway.
I flash CM7.2 stable version and my phone is not been much stable. From night to morning google play was gone and many apps like titanium wasnt working, I wipe everything and install gapps again to make it work. Now im having many freeze trying to use GPS.

I've i9000 bootloader and same ICS modem (can't flash older modems) my hardware build is 1006 (and shutdown when battery life is over 76% on stock).

Is there some recommendations for me?

If stability and general all round niceness are your goals, I'd go with Legend 4. I have a 1006 build and have no problems. I'm not too sure about the i9000 bootloaders being a good thing. There are packages, Odin based, that will get you back to ATT GB with the correct bootloaders. From there you can do anything.

tl;dr go back to stock and start over.

thanks for your recommendations. You have to use captivate keep alive to keep your phone ON while certain battery % is reached?

No I don't. This is my only phone so first and foremost it has to run and be a phone. That's why I go the stable route. I run Legend 4 stock although there are some very cool themes available for it. I'm also running the corn 7.06 kernel with its stock settings and I did convert to EXT4.

I routinely get almost 2 days on it if I don't use it alot. Less of course if I use it more but it will run down to nothing before it dies.

Curious, are you sure your phone is 1006?, all 1006 was know of their hardware bug and at&t cover that problem changing phone for those warranted. I have shutdown problem over % of battery even on froyo.

Yes it is. It is the second 1006 I've had. The first was within the number range that was bad and ATT replaced it. This one is not in that range and functions fine. I'm not one to go down rabbit holes but your battery may not be the greatest either.

In any event, and before messing with a battery, I'd get it to a platform that is stable so you can rule that out of any problems. Go with minimum apps. the old scientific method.... just change one thing at a time.

Tried a few ICS ROMs but the deal breaker for me was Battery Life. I could only manage 12-15 hours with moderate usage, where I could squeak 25+ on KK4 with the same. I know it's not terribly drastic, but I'm a bit conservative, and I don't like the idea of my phone not being able to last potentially an entire day

Very true about battery life. Im not a fan of charging the phone every night, but my captivate, that I got on release day, is very smooth on ics. Not as smooth as gingerbread MIUI but very close. The only weird thing I have encountered is I cannot over clock on ics. On miui with glitch kernel, I always ran it at 1400.
