--[5a] Let it boot, use adb to reboot to recovery (adb reboot recovery) or use any known methods to boot directly to recovery
OR
--[5b] Let it boot, delete firmware /sdcard/PG86IMG.zip , reboot to bootloader > recovery
[4] Flash ROM

With no doubt Apex is good. But still lack of few features. Go Launcher with ICS theme is great

Few reasons GO over Apex :
1-Folder in app drawer + nice folder management & view
2-App drawer apps grid customization(i really need this)
3-Apex quite lag to detect gestures on home screen
4-GO widgets compatibility. eg: note widget as tasks manager. nothing can beat this yet.

Just sharing my thoughts
U can install Apex anytime
