I found a way but it's not pretty. I opened the ROM and inside the framework app are the images for the location icon. I created a 50x50 transparent image and replaced the 4 location icons with the transparent images.

It looks weird when the sync icon is on because there's a gap between that and the 4g icon, but I don't mind that, I prefer it to having the location icon there all the time.

To completely remove it, you'd have to decompile the framework app I think and remove the part of the code that displays the image.

Link is down. Battery looks sweet and is exactly what I was looking for.

no to remove the GPS reticle, it is editing smali code in the systemui.apk.

it's actually very simple,
it's just chaning two lines of code, and only two numbers, changing 0 to 1, or 1 to 0, I forget..

its in the htcstatusbarservice.smali iirc'

search for .method private updateGPSONEIcon callouts
