Would you put a link to that rom up? The kindle has so many roms posted, the reason I started with just AOKP was that I couldn't figue out where the CM9 standard builds were.

If I had seen Hashcode's ROM, I would've started there. I am familiar with his work through watching the 3.x kernel development.

Anyway, for sure. Just point out where to get it, and I will add support for that, no problem.

Thanks. I'll add the packages and update the thread in the early afternoon.

Default Quick Question

You are most welcome and thank you. I tried it (I am running the latest Gedemis ROM at the moment) and your instructions were flawless. I do have one question.

I ran the PDroid for the Gedemis CM9 ROM package and it installed perfectly. I would like to try the V6 package as well. Any steps that I should take first? Clear anything out?

And thanks again.

Great!
The current method for enabling multiple mods like this is to combine them into a single package. We have the software capability to layer mods on top of one another, all within android, but right now we can't count on the hardware always being up to the task. As Android devices become beefier over the next year or so, on-board modding will be the preferred method.

But for now, I have premade packages that combine multiple mods and packaged them for distribution in Botbrew.

Botbrew, by design, won't let you install multiple system-app packages. That is because each package contains a unique set of modded system apps. If you install a new package, you are by definition replacing the first.

All of that is a long way of saying, it's easy, but you do have to uninstall the current pdroid package.

Within Botbrew
  • Uninstall the android-framework-pdroid package
  • Install the android-framework-pdroid-v6
  • Reboot
After reboot, PDroid will still be enabled (it was actually never disabled with this method) but you will have to configure the v6 from the terminal with a copy of the script you get yourself. I could install it for you, but zeppelinrox prefers that all users download the program from him directly. There is a link to his downloads page in the first post, as well as a link to a configuration guide should you need one.

Thanks for trying the packages!

Note: in the V6 configuration guide link, you will notice some different Botbrew package names. That is because the guide is for my Nook Color packages. The walk-through for the V6 is 100% applicable to the kindle fire, though.

and done. The packages for Hashcode's CM9 rom are in the Botbrew repo.

The naming conventions are the same.
  • For PDroid only, install android-framework-pdroid-cm9hashcode.
  • For Pdroid + V6 Supercharger install android-framework-pdroid-v6-cm9hashcode

Why? What's wrong with the way I am offering this software?

Here is a Q&A I have up on a package thread for another device. It will tell you some of the reasons I use this method, if you're interested.

As loathe as I am to bury koop1955's nice words, I figure I should let you fine people know about this...

Botbrew +1

I don't know if y'all have seen, but the new Botbrew+1 is out in the wild for debugging purposes, and is going to be available on Play in very short order.

This is going to be a separate release from the Botbrew you currently use, and is going on Play for easy and apparent updating purposes only!

Botbrew+1 is powered by a completely new engine, as the switch from opkg to dpkg is finally here!

I intend to have a separate repo set-up for the debian packages sometime in the next 24 hours. I will post here when it is ready. The current repo will remain available for quite a while, as we get the switch hammered into shape.

This means that if you update Botbrew, be prepared for things to be a little different. From the user-side, it should be very much the same set-up, but this is the new roll-out of all sorts of features and processi (is that a word? who knows.) so the possibility of bugs will remain.

Like I said, I will keep the repo you are currently using up to date, so if you want continue using the Botbrew you already have installed, that is fine and will be supported.

Thanks, I will let you know when the debian repo is ready, for those of you early adopters!
