Never taken anything personally. However, if facts are to be laid, they better be laid out fairly.
People want customization on Android v/s People need customization on Android?
In order to run a ZTE branded low-end Android lag-free, bug-free, force-close-free you will probably need a CM7 stable build.
In order to run a ZTE branded low-end WP lag-free, bug-free, force-close-free you will NOT need anything extra.
This takes me to the below quote:
There is probably NO arguement about those high-end Android phones with single, dual, quad-core. They sure perform excellent and how Android was dreamt of by it's birth mother.
However, Android thrives also on the low-end market. If I was to compare OS V/S OS - It shouldn't matter if I pick up a high-end phone or a low-end phone. I should ideally have the same experience. Pick up a Nokia Lumia 900, 800 or 610 - you will have the same experience. No freeze, No lag, No bug, No force closes. Unless you are a hard core fan boy, you would agree with me that you can't say the same for Androids. Yes, ofcourse you see the difference in storage capacity or camera or anything hardware related. The OS performance is still identical when you go high-end to low-end in WP.
So at the end of the day like you said: "As one said the worst in Android are cheep phones that destroy its image, and expensive phones with crap and bloatware added by their manufacturers"
Agree.. and that could be thought as the price of being open source..
But as far as WP & Android or any other OS is considered, none is absolute, every OS incorporate features differently. And what allures the user is entirely a matter of personal choice..
For me, its customization thats most important. Not as a necessity to run my phone, but as the assurance that I have the options to change what n when I want/need.
PS: Personally I've seen some low-end Android phones running better on stock ROM's than modded one's
Doesn't matter from where I send it, what matters is written above
Thats a bold statement. Maybe a tattoo of 'Android for Life' to prove your allegiance? ;p
+1 this could be on the menu at every tattoo saloon
1.Open source:
It all comes down to how you value yourself and how you value your time/skills. Customizing the OPEN source Android comes at a huge price, regardless of how many praise it, userland chaos is the b*tch as every manufacturer has its own framework. Time spent to read, learn, understand, write and so on. If your time is plenty and you have a great knowledge,it's ok. If that's your main job then you're at the mercy of DONATE TO ME button. Not to mention that you get stuck and you're at the mercy of other more experienced devs...after all,Google support is the open source community support. Most bugs are hardware related and really hard to deal with since some drivers are closed source. Either way, being open doesn't necessary make it better and some kernel/framework related bugs are still present.
Being unified as a platform and hardware,WP is more straightforward to develop for and the bugs are discovered fast and an update is delivered for the whole platform( carriers could delay one step, not the case for security patches).
Apps.
How many is enough? Apple market is full of fart, whip, draw, photoshopping, funny lists...and they all came to Android.
What do you really need? Decent photo app- WP check, decent social apps- WP check, decent cloud services- WP rules, decent satnav- somehow check, decent UI- WP rules.
Bluetooth
Can't remember last time someone asked me to share a file trough BT...maybe 2002...External GPS sensor OMG
File management/usb storage mount/ hot swappable sd card.
The one and only true missing feature. Not a deal breaker though. It's the sand boxed platform policy. Also, I'm not used to carry an USB cable with me since Skydrive/Dropbox/Email features were discovered by mankind.
UI and app integration
This is the strong point for WP. It is the one of the best UI developed 'till now. If you need a device as a smartphone, the WP approach is the way to go. I can't argue that some more polishing is welcome.
Switching an Android device is a PIA (HTC to Sammy, SONY to LG). Each comes with proprietary launcher.
Hardware.
WP runs and runs. Reboots and freezes are rare. One core, 512 Mb, 5 Mpix camera. Battery lasts.
Android runs, stumbles, runs, walks. Sometimes is wish I'd carry a car battery with me. QUAD CORE 2300mA battery=24H charge. High end device 8Mpix camera= pink spot, no remedy since driver is closed source.
Reading all arguments here only brings back the taste of the early Android days and IOS/Android trolls. It is funny how the IPhone arguments that were used in IOS-->Android war ( apps, marketshare, etc.) are now used by "Android for life" bearers.

For the last 6-7 years i'm using Windows Mobile devices and for year and a half Windows Phone 7.
When i migrate from Windows Mobile i told myself - Never again WinMO or microsoft ! So i tryed different Android phones (that was about year 2009-2010)
Well Android seems to be the best OS for me . No White Screen of death,no sudden restarts ,bug free. I decide to give it a try with my firends devices
Suddenly i found that i'm in the same sittuation when i was with Windows Mobile.
Crappy devices, lots of LAG,rooting, flashing, reinstalling and etc.Every day i came back home with something that i whant to customize. After hours of reading, restoring ,reflashing the next day comes and the same problems continues and my devices was not working properly .
"Hey Martin why did not pick up your phone" ...."Someone calling" ?
"Why my battery is draining in a couple of hours"
"Why my 3g data does not work" . "Why i can't use programs that my Andro friends have"
And then i start reading ...
What CPU you use,What Display(HVGA,QVGA,WVGA..blaVGA..) ...how much RAM did you have. Is there TaskManager to kill your programs...enabled Bluetooth ...oh problems and problems.
Why i have to worry about that i forgot something or i should not know...
Why i have to know what is my screen and what resolution supports.
Why i have to khow the available RAM on my device ?
Why my friend are using iGO but i can't install the same version ? Why my programs stop work suddenly ?
Everyday questions and quiestions what is not working and how to resolve the problem .
Then i said ...well this is the same sh*t like WinMO !
I moved to Windows Phone 7 (mango beta2) and suddenly - no problems . Yes there are things that i missed from WinMO or Android but now everything is working out of the box.
I don't worry anymore for all the problems that i had.
What CPU ? - don't care. What display resolution - Why ? How much RAM - WTF ?
Exchange Server integration with UAG - no problem. Sharepoint access - not a single problem
Whant a document or file from my phone - why not download from my SkyDrive .
Working Excel spreadsheet - not a problem. Whant to edit DOCX file - well i can do it with a limitations but i still can.Preview Powerpoint presentations (PPTPX) yes i can.
And BTW i am not one of those users that use their phone for Talk and games only.I use it for may daily tasks as an IT Consultant/Administrator and i don't miss anything .(well maybe OpsMgr client and free RDP)
Bluetooth filesharing - you should be kidding be . Why don't install RS232 and Ifrared to bring back the old days .
On android you have a choice, on wp7 if you don't like something you dont have a choice because WP7 is locked. Also android and iOS have localized apps for every country, wp7 doesnt have any of that because it doesnt sell.

So, you are saying that on android you can not edit excel spreadsheet or preview PPTX file, please, my 5 years old Symbian devices can do that. I know people that are using iPhones, Symbian Nokias, Androids, and none of them dont know whats the screen resolution, or how much RAM memory phone has, or how many cores CPU have etc, so your argument that people only can use WP and be oblivious about hardware specs of their phone is wrong.
Hmm.. Android
- always gives you a choice!
- allows you to open, save any file you want
- allows you to send any file via e-mail not only picture (sic!)
- allows you to use USSD codes and menus (WP supports only one way USSD queries) (to explain USSD are codes that are "dialed" to check balance, activate services and so on)
- allows you to send files over bluetooth and connect to devices like GPS and other that require serial port profile
- is extensible - consider "share this" functionality.. on android every application can register itself to handle specific type of actions - so if you decide to share a link to currently browsed page you can perform "share" action and you will be given a choice of any app that is installed. in WP you can only use services that Microsoft has implemented (only pictures can be shared by any app)
- can open any file or url with specific app - app can register to handle specific file types or url schemes - so if you navigate to something that begins with http://youtube... you are given a choice whether you want to open this in browser or with youtube app.. or whaterver is installed
- supports single sign on - note that if you use google apps like google reader, gmail, g+ you define your google account only once. In WP you have to provide credentials to every app (like skydrive - by microsoft - it requires to provide live credentials despite the fact that you have already set up your live account in system settings) stupid and unconvenient
- has much better apps and cheaper! in my opinion most of apps in WP marketplace are crap... (early days?)
- sometimes is screwed by manufacturers (like somsung with its ugly touchwizz)...
- fully supports mms
- works out of box, but if feel advanced allows you to tune it
- isn't always so smooth... but hey.. depends on the app - there are many WP7 apps that aren't so smooth as the "main" UI.... it is not the platform!!! it is developers that are responsible for writing it right!
- real multi tasking - real background services with no weird restrictions like in WP7 (they say its because of battery/performance reasons - bull****... see below).
- decent api that allows to create usefull apps
- ...
I'm using lumia 800 for a month now.. and can't wait till i get my HTC One S and will be back to android (was using nexus s).
And one thing.. as for lumia 800. Even with newest firmware this thing SUCKS as it goes to batter life.. 18h this is the max what i managed to get having 3 push email accounts, twitter and facebook (+facebook chat). This is crap... really.
With nexus s I can get 36h+ with no problems.
If you have any further questions - ask.
2 major things that you forgot (not that I disagree)
1. drag and drop media to the phone without zune (I LOVE THAT)
2. Better camera drivers (save from the titan series, the cameras on windows phones have been woefully mediocre, even by standards of mobile camera)
In addition to that the developer support is there, communities are by in large bigger, and generally do some great things for the device. However, a killer for me with android is the keyboard options. They all suck. The UI options. They all suck (that includes vanilla ICS, it was like it was designed by a retarded monkey tossing poo blinding other monkeys and drawing said ui with the non used poo).
that said there is a lot to like and dislike about both platforms. But since I love typing on my phone, keyboard is a HUGE DEAL

Every time i want to install something i had to figured out what are my specifications and find the proper resolution because of the fragmentation.
Want HTC sense - not in a stock rom . If i get the proper version ...with specifications...for the resolution...for that particular OS ...no way
Want some media player - still have to find proper resolution version.Whant to install Bunny Shooter or Angry Birds. No problem.Whant to play - lags as hell.
And when back to 2010 - there was no way to open PPTX or DOCX files. Still my girlfriend can't open these formats on hers Android 2.3 phone (Wildfire that lags alot)
I'm really tired of reading 10 pages of threads only to find something usefull.I don't have enough time to debug my phone or someone else phone. If you want do it,maybe you don't have social life at all.My time is precious and i don't want to lose it .
That is my opinion.I am not a developer - I am a user .

Uhm, i dont do that, i download it from market and it always works, i dont know what were you downloading.

Thats major BS and you know that, i opened pptx without any problem
Docs to go (paid)
Kingsoft office (free on market)
And please tell me more how 150 euros wildfire can not compete with your 350-400 euros WP7 phone, i would like to hear it more, you should compare samsung mini or some cheapest huawei with n900 that would be perfect.
In my Country Wildfire is more expensive than HTC Trophy that i have
Wildfire - 250euros (not S)
Trophy - 225 euros
Well for paid app is prety good . Some how i don't want to spend money for that comes with my OS for free.
Something that i miss alot from Android and WinMo - USB file access
And by the way as far as i remember i can't share internet conectivity from my PC to Android phone(not reverse tethering) . I don't had that problem with any WP7 device or WinMO
Still both platforms are good and if somehow in next WP8 version Microsoft add some missing features Android is going down. People in my country bought Android phones because of the crappy WinMO realization and expensive iPhone phones. That is the only reason Android to grow fast - alternative for the iPhone.
Bluetooth filesharing - you should be kidding be . Why don't install RS232 and Ifrared to bring back the old days .
Just because this is sometimes more convenient then sending this through skydrive. And you can't first download any file from the web to your windows phone and then share it with your friends. You can't save zip file to your phone.
I agree that it all depends on what you do, you always can find a workaround but it is all about convenience. I do a lot things on my phone instead doing them on my PC just because it allows me to do it. WP is limited in some scenarios, but it doesn't mean that it is bad or ****ty. Every platform has its drawbacks and I thought that this thread is about that.
I agree that you should not care abt hardware specs... but its the press who usually make the noise here and users follow
1.WM6.5- Wished MS would have keep this going it wasn't all that bad (mogul-touch pro 2)
2.Android 2.x- felt unfinshed and HTC Sense kinda f'd up the experience for me(HTC Evo)
3.IOS4.x- was cool wanted something finished that I didn't have to tinker with but got old to me and boring(IPhone4)
4.IOS5.x-Was cool but got old and boring seeing how if I was at the barber shop and looked at someone else's IPhone it looked just like mine and apps from IOS4.x crashed (yes ones downloaded from the app store on a non jailbroken device) Not to mention that SIRI is a lazy old bitch (Iphone4s)
5.Android4.0.4- This is what brought me back to android it look more finished I like the UI better yeah its kinda laggy from time to time but what UI doesn't have some problem personally I really like vanilla ICS (galaxy nexus) I think this is perfect for me I can customize if I want to or just use
