I'll be mailing it in later today.
what # did you call? i'm getting the S3 this week but I would like to get my f*#$ed up atrix replaced if possible so i can have a working backup phone. this lack of wifi has jacked up my data usage!

Default Atrix Wifi Error Experiment

My phone recently had this same problem. Same week Moto announced they wouldn't be updating the Atrix to ICS. Not too thrilled with those guys right now. Just wanted to share an experiment I tried.

For those that work with electronics, you're familiar with cold solders and the fact that shorts/opens can pronounce themselves dependent on temperature. Out of curiosity, I tossed my Atrix in the freezer for 1/2 hour. When I pulled it out, I quickly turned on the wifi and it instantly enabled, saw my router and connected.

It only lasted seconds however before the device heated up enough to fail again. What does this tell us? Not too much. It could be an open/short internal to the chip - possible 'Pad No Sticks' meaning the wire bonding to the pads on chip have failed, or it could be external to the chip - soldering to the motherboard (poor soldering).

I've read before where someone ran their device through a reflow, so I've just assumed it wasn't a cold solder issue. However, maybe we shouldn't be so quick to assume re soldering or re flowing the solder wouldn't solve the issue. Has anyone else tried re soldering their chips?

Check there. An app for root users to remove the WiFi/BT drivers from most ROMS, to stop this rebooting nonsense.

I have a very operational device - my luck, but my friend got this error recently... He didn't flash anything, didn't unlock, only root... He is on 2.3.4, never get it to 2.3.6 ! On the other side, I flashed all kinds of ROMs

As we proved here it is a hardware issue, should I be worried ? Is there only certain batch of them misbehaving like this, or all are affected ?

Mine is ATRIX4G AT&T,and so is his...

And finally - is this a WiFi chip related, or something else - bcs I would go for the Razor Maxx HD which apparently has the same WiFi chip, or I think so...

i threw mine in the freezer for a little bit and got the same results. wifi and bluetooth turn on, connect to router, ~1min later reboot and errors out

Now I have the answer to your problem because I discovered the fault is not rom or kernel or battery is mother board problem

You are THE MAN. Only person on the internet that figured out how to fix this MB860 WIFI error thing. I have tried the hard reset, remove and reinstall the mobo battery, and was considering returning the phone to factory build when I ran across your thread on XDA. It took me less than 20 seconds to fix my WIFI. Now it takes off like the Devil himself is chasing it.You should put up a Youtube video. It took me 3 tries to see the piece of plastic. If you don't want to do a video I would like to post your find along with your XDA-Developers login name. Thank you VERY MUCH for the fix. Please let me know if you will do a video or if you will be ok with me doing one. Thanks again. ED
