No offense intended but is this method of root access an inferior one? Compared to flashing a properly compromised kernel (or whatever the right term is)
I ask this because both my HP Touchpad, my Galaxy S2 and S3 kind of 'lock up' when you try to use anything which requires superuser access. It eventually works but apps time out and Android OS prompts you to kill the task, very reminiscent of WinXP and a hung app (end task)
Not trying to bad name it, I'm just curious as it makes things a bit awkward to work with (and when I demo Android to friends, they think it's slow and buggy!)
as written MANY times before, this doesnt work..... !
... tapat*lked
Well.. you made me go back and look through all the posts.. all 26 pages. And no its not written MANY times, try once, by you to another user. Unless I skimmed to fast I barely saw any mention of it. A couple posts here and there about triangle away and mobile Odin.. but USB jig was mentioned in the first 4 or 5 pages then again when you answered the other user and informed him that it just jumps into download mode and the counter still said 1. ...My bad
So, now looking for the right files to download to root (and de-brand?) my 5 hour old SGS3...
You're a brave man, money conscious no doubt - but brave.
I got mine outright with allphones, the bastards sold me an unlocked but Optus Branded one - so I'm in a similar boat to you.
Yeah, money was a big factor, but ... I haven't been as impressed with Telstra as people let on. I get ZERO data connection when at venues, and have to teather with my wife who's on Vodafone, to get data. (3G congestion at big events, maybe). Also, I'd have paid $73 on Telstra for 1.5Gb, $550 value. I went with Vodafone, and got $750 credit, 2.0Gb data, unlimited texts, unlimited calls to Voda (my wife!) ... for $47! Wasn't a hard choice.. and they 'promise' Voda is upgrading their network...
Anyway, back on topic, I assume we just have to wait for the Australian firmware before we can root, and debrand?

Actually I thought the "international" firmwares were fine for us - was for my Galaxy S2.
I think my firmware for ICS was based from an English build.
The topic of piracy is always a touchy subject, but I feel that the grass roots style of Android … more
