Angry The Wired Headphones/Headsets Thread - the best of the best for SGS3

So, we have a couple of threads already: wireles headsets, earphones.
This one is for Wired Headphones and Headsets

Since there are very few APT-X capable wireless bluetooth headphones available and "genral" bluetooth ones sound so so, people like me, who prefer sound quality over wireless factor, always lack the info about what is the best and such.

The main factors, I believe, for wired headphones are: Good Sound and how much battery power they suck out of our gadgets.

Let's have this thread for such discussions and suggestions.

Sadly, we do not yet have our SGS3s to test everything live, but we can try starting anyways.

I can start with Audio-Technica ATH-ES55. I have the white model.

This model sounds very good. I have tested it with various devices (Cowon J3, HTC Sensation and others) and it really brings superb sound. Some details:
Frequency Response 10 - 25,000 Hz
Maximum Input Power 1,000 mW
Sensitivity 103 dB/mW
Impedance 34 ohms

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Sennheiser HD 580

One more great sounding model, older audiophile series that still sound very very good to my ears.
Frequency response: 12 - 38,000 Hz
Nominal impedance: 300 ohms
Characteristic SPL: at 1 kHz 97 dB
Load rating: 0.2 W

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Sennheiser HD 650

Another audiophile grade headphones that are pretty famous for their pure natural sound, the best of what i have now. These is the preferred model for me to use around the house, for games and music listening.
Frequency response (headphones) 10.....39,500 Hz
Nominal impedance 300 Ω
Sound pressure level (SPL) 103 dB (1 Vrms)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Beyerdinamic DT 770 M

These are another German made headphones. They are closed and are for stage and studio use, people around you won't really hear what you're listening and you won't hear them too as they provide an excellent isolation against ambient noise. They have a volume control directly at the headphone. However, they are not so pleasant to wear and the sound is not that great as audiophile Sennheiser ones offer.
Headphone impedance 80 ohms
Headphone frequency response 5 - 30.000 Hz
Nominal sound pressure level 105 dB

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Keep the suggestions coming and let discussion begin

I have read some interesting info on some forum:
Quote:
Will regular headphones drain the battery quicker due to the larger speaker size? It shouldn't matter. The iPod will always send out a fixed amount of power through the headphone jack.
However, the consequence of having a fixed power output is that headphones/earbuds will have different volumes. Those that need less power will sound relatively louder. Those that need more power will sound relatively quieter. To determine which does which, look at the resistance (ohms - Ω) for your headphones/earbuds. Low resistance means that more power can easily reach your headphones/earbuds giving you greater volume.

The true key of how loud something will be given a certain amount of power is the quoted efficiency of the phones (given in db/mw). Low ohm ratings aren't consistent anyway (the impedance of the phone will vary throughout it's reponse range).

e.g. the 110 ohm impedance Shure E5 will be extremely loud when you plug it in to a volume setting that was comfortable for the 27 ohm Etymotic ER-4P. The reason is that the Shure is much more efficient.
But that was about iPod, does anyone know if SGS3 or another android phones always send out a fixed amount of power through the headphone jack?

I still use these and to me they are very very hard to beat, in terms of cost Vs performance ratio.

Best money I ever spent in my mind

Yes, they are wonderful and i'm going to try them with SGS3. I tried them on HTC Sensation and they sound perfect, without any additional EQ and enhancements, however, the Shure E 215 earbuds that i also have, needed heavy EQ modding and enhancements to have a sound that in the end didn't sound as good as Sennheisers.

I was reading a lot of stuff today about power efficiency of wired headphones. What i came up is that higher impedance headphones use less power. So if My Audio-technica has 34 ohm, Beyerdinamic has 80 ohm and Sennheiser HD 580 has 300 ohm, the latter one will be more battery friendly. However, something inside me stops me from thinking that this info is 100% true.

I was going to test my headphones on HTC Sensation for 1 hour each to see which pair use less power. However, i don't know how to count that?!? If i could get suggestions from others about how to track the power usage of headphones, with some app or so, i could do the tests.

I think I may experiment and see If I can hook up my Naim HeadLine to it

The Senny's are reasonably sensitive, but I much prefer to have headroom to spare.
