God, both of you guys grow up! Take it to PM or something! While I understand that this website is for phone development and not social development, would it kill you to not clog up a thread with your childish blathering?

Back on topic, I've actually gone back from CM9 to CM7, in favor of having a more responsive phone. Same apps and setup, CM7 is much faster for me than CM9 is. Now I know that CM7 has been around longer and has thus had more time to work out bugs than CM9 has, but that doesn't take away from the fact that ICS is a resource hog.

Does that mean I support Sony's decision to not release ICS for XPlay?

Not at all.

Do I think there's still a chance for them to redeem themselves?

Absolutely! Have the other phones in the XPlay's group received their ICS updates yet? Do you remember reading Sony's official stance on using the Beta? On their website, they said that people that use the beta will be "locked" out of using the official ICS anyway, because of unlocking the bootloader. It also said they already weren't going to do OTAs.

It seems to me that Sony has left themselves open to give us something of a Release Candidate, or the like, to play with, in a much similar fashion as the Beta. After all, the XPlay was the last of the SE phones to get the Beta. Give it a little bit of time. From what I've seen, Sony has been willing to work with developers in the past. As such, maybe they're just finalizing an RC, or making a content pack for us.

While you can't just hold on to blind hope forever, it's still early for this development. And even if it takes a couple of months to convince Sony, how long did it take for Duke Nukem Forever to get released? And how about Half-Life 3?

Why don't you just accept that the Play isn't getting ICS!!!
If you want ICS then get another phone. I've been looking over this thread for the past 24 hours and all you've done is complain at people who don't share your views about Sony.

Long story short, accept Gingerbread or get another phone with ICS. This thread is getting out of hand and should be locked

Boycotting Sony over a device that has a fairly niche market will hold absolutely zero weight and shows nothing but pettiness on your part.

I bought the phone after Sony promised to update the xplay, so I won't just "accept that", as you say.

As for complaining at anyone who doesn't share my view, what utter nonsense, I have replied to people who on average have posted childish remarks about my position. I have made it clear on multiple occasions that I respect other peoples opposing positions, its just a shame that those people can't respect mine.

As I have also said before, I choose to do something when I feel an unjustness has been dealt, regardless of how petty you might consider it, as opposed to doing nothing and just accepting Sonys decision. Don't like that? disagree on my position? fine, just don't try to change it

Long story short, I have decided to bring people together who are equally as disappointed with the decision. When I feel there is no hope that Sony will backtrack or offer soem sort of a peace offering, I will move to another device and won't look back. Again, no one is forcing you to take the same position.

There's a lesson to be learnt here:
Don't buy a device based on future updates. Buy it for what it can do at the time.

The lesson I'll take from this, assuming Sony doesn't backtrack or offer a peace offering, is that I just won't use Sony again. My loss some people will say, well so be it. Being an owner of many a sony product (PS3/PS2 Slim, PSN+ sub, HDTV, xplay, and was considering the Sony tablet...) I consider it their loss. No trust, no sale.

I've noticed. As I said earlier, this thread has degenerated into arguments and should be locked

No arguments mate. Just a lot of people not able to accept a different point of view. Sad times.

Wow, a lot of Sony love here, even after being shafted.
At the moment Gingerbread is best on the Xperia Play.
But do not confuse this fact, as the reason that the Xperia Play cannot handle ICS,
It cannot handle ICS, because Sony does not want to implement it, as this phone is EOL(end of life). Sony will not gain anything financially by implementing ICS.

They promised ICS. And they are not delivering on their promise.
Sony should have made a thorough consultation on whether they can implement ICS on this device, before saying they would.

I can go and buy another phone, say a GalaxyS3 or One X, but it would be touchscreen only, no physical buttons... which means I cannot play any serious game, cannot even attempt to use an emulator in any real sense. So far only the Xperia Play can do this. There is no new alternative. It's not just an android phone, it's a handheld gaming console. It's support should be different.

Remember this Sony: Trust begets trust.

You can get another phone and buy a USB clip-on controller or a Dual Shock 3. Don't have to stick with the Play for a gamepad

Yes, but it wouldn't be the same. It wouldn't be implemented that well, and even worse, there would be close to zero game support. I played with one on my mates iphone4... it was horrible. It's not a serious alternative at all.

I use a Wiimote sometimes on games, but you cannot tell me you're gonna lug around a dual shock3 or wiimote in your pocket on the way to work?
