Your completely ignoring the fact that skins keep the phone intact to prevent scratches, it keeps the phones body tight & secure.
Cases don't do this, a hard knock to the case can crack the phone, this won't happen with skins.
There is a reason screen protectors not only prevent scratches but severely decrease a chance of 'cracks & breakages', the skin keeps the screen tight & bonded - most cracks are developed by shock shooting through the screen to create the crack, a good screen protector bonds the screen tightly with the protector, stopping this from happening.
