Technically it's impossible to know that until Wallet works again because it doesn't try to initialize the app (and therefore the secure element) until it gets past those checks. I do hope everything will be okay
For peace of mind, reports of this only have been found when people either flash a ROM or do a hard reset. If you just rooted, you should be okay.
Any reports of RUU without clearing wallet causing problems? I had given the htc_jewel build.prop trick another go with no success...reverted and rebooted which led to black screen and no boot. I wasn't HTC unlocked so no recovery options. Ended up having to RUU which solved it.
Still not sure what went wrong, never had a no boot situation before.
Ok, I'm a bit worried but I want to know if I should be. I don't have the phone yet, I get it soon. I plan on going through root + S-OFF, if I choose to not even open Google Wallet at all, will that be the same as having cleared its settings?

This is answered on the OP...
It's quite frustrating to continuously see questions that have already been answered.

Yes. When you reset Wallet, its restores the secure element and the application data to how it was before an account was linked to your phone, therefore if you never set one up it will be the same as "restoring" an existing Wallet setup.

I deeply apologize if this question has been asked, but I've not seen it specifically mentioned anywhere obvious.
I "have" used google wallet, or at least attempted to, before it stopped working on our phones entirely. However, now I obviously cannot go back into the app and clear my settings.
I am rooted but not unlocked. How can I clear my GW settings at this point to safely unlock? Will simply uninstalling it be enough (is that even possible for that app?). If I use S-OFF instead of htc unlock, will that protect gw from breaking? Does installing a custom recovery affect it? If I could get TWRP up and running I could flash that new wallet fix.

People have been having that problem too, I don't think they were able to clear it without flashing the fix you're talking about. S-OFF SHOULDN'T mess you up UNLESS something goes wrong with S-OFF that causes you to have to wipe. Installing recovery is also okay since that doesn't mess with the system/data partition. If you're confident S-OFF will not fail then you should be 100% okay to proceed.
Good luck friend

Yes, yes, I know you're frustrated and normally I'd be on your side, but seeing as there are people who have not only managed to flash new ROMs without wiping Wallet and still have it, there are also people who are "unbricking" by flashing OMJ's mod, I'd say the OP's info may not be as rock-solid correct as we all assume.
Personally, I'm not entirely sure that this "wipe before flash or else" OP is correct. You should have someone who doesn't give a damn about NFC attempt to do it, see if they can still use it, and if not, try to flash OMJ's zip.

In the post you were asking if not using the app warranted clearing the settings. It was answered in the OP. You never mentioned flashing any Wallet specific zips.
As for your point, indeed if someone doesn't care bout the secure element (NFC itself will not be bricked) they are more than welcomed to try it. The ambiguity of this issue regarding our specific device is high as opposed to other devices that have had SE problems, but this might be because we got our devices and this thread was made with enough anticipation to prevent this being an issue with our phones.
Even so, we have had people that got a secure element brick because they didn't clear settings as well as other who didn't have a problem with not clearing its settings. The only thing we know for sure is that clearing settings before flashing a ROM or hard resetting can definitely prevent the bricking of the secure element. Furthermore, no fix to date on any device was found but that's not to say one cannot exist, maybe the zip you are referring to might resolve the problem.

So should wallet be cleared for nand backups and restores?
I did. Had to go to the store for a trouble ticket so had to revert to stock; & yes I cleared the account altogether.afterwards I re-activated wallet w/ a new pin & it's been working fine: my balance was right back where I had left it.
Better safe than sorry. Surely wouldn't hurt to clear account for nand restores (my backup didn't seem to affect it tho.)
