You have already typed a lot for me, sorry to bother again,

OTA HC 3.0.1 was rooted before you flash ICS bootloader from your program??

If I need only a working ICS rom on my Tab, not rooted no CWM, can I stop at the instruction no.6
yes !

you will probably loose the recovery at some point but if that doesnt bother you that shouldn't be an isue.

However, can you update the tool packages not to flash V3 - it doesn't allow custom BL updates via. CWM (full support for that is in V5 via both CWM and fastboot).
meaning? I should block flashing v3 and below bootloaders on my tool or what?

Well no, I meant not to have explicitly an option to flash V3.

I know its too much now to ask....would be greatful if you could confirm please..

I am bit concern about the apps and data I installed, so what I decided is ,

1) root with IconiaRoot.apk
2) install Titanium Backup and backup my apps & data
3) open your Afterota and flash ics bootloader 3.14.6 + thor recovery v1.72 from the "ics" tab
4) reboot to recovery, do all the wipes and install the third OTA release from Civato thread : Acer_AV041_A500_1.041.00_WW_CUS1

could you please confirm whether this will work or not?

Many thanks

you do not need to be in download mode !
usb debugging must be on in android and the driver must be installed correctly. the cable should be plugged in to, perhaps try another usb port, to force automaticly reinstalling the driver that is currently on your system. Is the driver installed at all? perhaps reinstall the driver with the one that comes with the package. In my test environment on windows 7 i do not run uac to. Perhaps that's an issue to, blocking the connection process.

on the ics tab it states v3.14.6, meaning bootloader 3.14 and your version 6
on the hc tab it's the plain stock v3.01 bootloader, the one that lets users use custom recoveries. The back to stock tab is meant for users who want to sell their tablet and want it to be full stock, you can achieve that there.

the thing that concerns me is the apx bootloader as civato stated, there are different versions of it, depending on what bootloader you want to install. The program currently has the v6 apx bootloader onboard for flashing ALL bootloaders with ANY recovery.

Ill need to recode that part so it uses the correct apx bootloader depending on what bootloader the user wants to flash.

you can use file expert to backup your apps, it does not need root to do that. Iconiaroot not needed because it cannot root ics, and rooting your current honeycomb is useless because after upgrading to ics you will have lost root.

Awesome tool. I have root on stock ice now.
Only weird thing is after rooting it i seem to have problems getting into Thor's custom recovery.
When i try to boot into recovery i get the android with the open chestwound doing the horizontal mambo....
Anyone have a clou?

About the APX bootloader, there will be updated one coming with V7 (reboots after pass on its own)

However - the new one is good for all cases, but old HC bootloader - in that case, you have to reflash AKB partition, if you don't use the old APX bootloader (coming with V3 and V4):
