Here is something easy everyone can do to make XDA run faster and better. No, it is not donating to XDA, or buying the XDA premium app, although I highly recommend those things if you have a little extra money. Nor is it complaining to the admins, satisfying as that might feel sometimes, it doesn't really help.
Please clean up your old attachments. Simple. Easy. I had accumulated quite a bit more than I realized, and I was quickly able to remove over 50% of the stuff that was taking up 90% of the space.
So please, everyone who reads this, take a few minutes and do your best to clear out anything old that is no longer needed, or move things that could be hosted off of the XDA servers. Pictures from old posts, mods for old versions of software or roms, cumulatively they add up to a lot of files for the XDA servers to store.
Be a part of the solution and feel the speed increase. Hopefully this can also have a positive impact on reducing some of the recent downtime we have seen.
If anyone wants to repost this in their favorite device General or Q&A forum, feel free to do so. Copy as much as you like or change it as you like, no attribution needed. No one likes taking the trash out, but we all appreciate the people who make it a clean place.
One other quick thing, if you have ever started a thread which is no longer needed or you do not plan to update, please notify one of the mods for that forum and ask for them to delete it. Thanks for helping!
OK, multiply that times a hundred thousand users or more. Also the size of the files is sometimes not as big as problem as the number of files. For instance, it takes a lot longer to copy 1 million small files than a few large files of the same total size.

I am not saying to delete all of your files, important stuff is just fine. No worries. I have important stuff there too. I am just suggesting that not all important stuff has to be on the XDA servers and that maybe some people taking a look might find more than they realized was there. And like me, could thin it out a bit.
XDA is about developing and is for developers. Any user that recognises that will gain the most benefit from this site
This is and always will be a site for developers, pure and simple. Without them we are nothing, without them there would be no reason for XDA Developers to exist; we should never ever forget that. Without them this place would not be called XDA-Developers but something else, e.g Mobile Phone User Support Services For Ungrateful Nerds.

If you wish to apply for one of the Recognized Themer/Contributor titles, or have a question, please DO NOT send me a PM about it. Instead please contact your device's forum moderator, or a senior moderator, who will deal with your application. Thanks

XDA Developers was founded by developers, for developers. It is now a valuable resource for people who want to make the most of their mobile devices, from customizing the look and feel to adding new functionality. Are you a developer?
