I signed up to a contract with Telstra today, and the NextG network craps all over Virgin/Optus. The reason behind this (I think) is that Telstra uses 850MHz for most 3G data, and this has much better penetration abilities than 2100 (for indoor and outdoor coverage)... Add to that the fact they don't oversubscribe their towers.

I have full reception at my house on Telstra and I was lucky to get 1 bar before with Virgin, with constant call dropouts. Telstra may be $10 extra per month, but the service is fantastic and well worth it.

Just my 2c worth.
100% agree. I have been with Optus / Virgin for about 15 years but after my current contract expires I am not going back. In the days when data didn't matter it was ok. Having a second phone on Telstra and the difference is massive at my place.

I think it only makes a big difference when using an Optus / Virgin sim in the T models.

I was with virgin too, and just switched to Vodafone, and have to say that I am impressed with the quality of their network since their upgrades. They aren't quite as fast as Telstra, but their coverage and network quality is leaps ahead of the Optus/Virgin network.

My patience are running out. Same issues as S2. Battery down to 35% by 12:35 and charged overnight and taken off power at 7:02am. I haven't really used it except for a couple of photos first thing and I checked Facebook once. 'Cell Standby' is chewing through the battery. I can only put it down to Vodafone bloat as my S2 was an Aussie bought S2 like this. My Nexus was an import with no carrier crap installed.

Is nobody else experiencing this?

I'll try reseting it.

The first thing I did when I got the S1 & S2 was flash a stock firmware (not carrier branded).

Intratech already has many available in his thread here (see 2nd post):

Thanks, but I think I can see the problem. The phone maintains an HSDPA connection. On the Nexus, it connects using HSDPA, then drops the H (back to 3G??) when not using data. The S3 stays on H and occasionally flipping to H+. I think this is drawing the power. I've just read of S2 users on the Voda having a similar issue. Going to install Currents and monitor it.

For anyone interested in rooting and / or installing cwm recovery to flash custom roms, Chainfire has done his thing again:

Root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1660918

Cwm recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1684535

To get back to stock I would recommend backing up first in cwm recovery for future restore or check out Intratech's thread (Oz firmwares not listed yet but should be in future): http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1671969

My experience tells me when there is crazy battery drain it is usually an app that is not optimized for the device.
I suggest you run the phone for two to three days with no apps installed just carrier apps and Samsung apps, if you still have the drain then it will be the carrier apps. Root the device and freeze the apps.

My friend has an s2 and has so many useless apps that he can't get 30min screen on time. Its a down side to android but its something a user can fix.

I bought S3 from Vodafone, so its GT-I9300T.

Anyone else can not search any gameloft games such as NOVA 3 or Modern Combat3 from Play store?

It seems like since its GT-I9300T not GT-I9300..
Well I can tell they will update for GT-I9300T, since my sister using s2 which is GT-I9100T and her s2 can search every games.

So, anyone who bought S3, could you try to search some games from gameloft at Play store?

Thanks in advance!

Its a known 'issue' for all S3s at the moment... the apps haven't been updated in the market to be compatible yet (even though they are). Many stated they just transferred the purchased .apk file from their note or S2 and installed it that way and everything worked fine.

Anyone here got the s3 on Telstra? I'm finding my reception to be worse than the HOX and my 4s.

Wondering what you guys are experiencing, and if I might have a faulty handset .

Cheers
HTC One. What a beauty.
