to answer the OP question. Poweramp is the best, hands down. It is a few bucks, but you get what you pay for. The eqing and sound customization is phenomenal. The overall appearance (including the lockscreen) is great as well. Give it a test drive and youll see. I think its a 14 day trial.

edit: i dont use it, but im pretty sure you can swipe to go to the next song in the app and lockscreen[/QUOTE]

I totally agree. I use the swipe to the next song on the lockscreen.
Great app!

Gotta be mixzing for me, reason being is it follows my folder structure, inside my music folder, I have folders for genre, then inside those, artist folders, now I have 5000 songs on my phone, all organized in that manner, last time I tried power amp, it took me it wouldn't back out all the way to my genre folders, only showed me all artist folders, at least on mixzing i can select my rock folder for example and shuffle just those songs. My 2 cents!!!

I agree with power amp being by far being the best! No need for anything else. Amazing equalizer, clear sound with great bass. You can use it for free for 14 days as well.

Poweramp is nice but but maybe it's too nice: It's busy extracting album art and puttling little .pamp files in the library. Apollo was crazy. I think it tries to do too much in the background. It went out and grabbed low quality artwork from somewhere, completely ignoring my own. Scrolling through the database was an exercise in patience trying to sort through the pictures that would popup or be incorrect.

What I'm looking for is a player that:

1. Shows album art (embedded and/or file)
2. Browse file structure without building some sort of database or having to use or build a playlist.
3. Plays gapless.
4. Free with no ads, nags, donate, pro or trial.
5. Read ID3, AAC (iTunes) and Vorbis tags correctly.

Is that asking too much? I wish the basic Google player could do that.

Rockbox is closest but it hangs when the screen locks on Android 4.0.4...

I would have to agree, plus JetAudio is the best player for windows second to none and the focus is on sound quality,it looks like they are carrying on that tradition on android,i wish they had skins though.

I'm not an audiophile or anything, but reviews say Neutron player has excellent sound. The menu system is dorky but it does sound good to my untrained ears and works fine on CM9.
