A friend of mine has one and it's just an all around solid phone. It has a 720p RGB-matrix display, a dual core processor, LTE, 1GB of RAM... Isn't it really easy to S-OFF as well, so you can flash it with whatever you want?
You'd think with it being such a generally above average device (and being cheap now on Verizon with a new contract) it would have awesome dev support, but that's just not what I'm hearing.
Anyways, I hope our Galaxy S3s ship early, I hope we keep unlimited data, etc, etc. Same old stuff that's been going on for ~70 pages or something crazy like that.

Some of it was poor timing... It came out in the same period as the Nexus and the RAZR. It isn't as of a sleek device as either of those, and HTC/VZW have drug their feet in getting an official ICS with source out there. It's not difficult to get s-off, but you do have to do the wire trick which isn't as easy as the one-click methods some other devices had.
So what you have is just modifications of stock roms for the most part. Until they have a working kernel no AOSP based ROMs. There's some decent ROMs out there, but not what I've been used to with both the Incredible and Gnex.
There's nothing that guarantees that the S III is going to be better, but the excitement around this device is very high, so I expect that there will be a lot of support out there. If I can get CM9 or AOKP on it I'll be happy as a clam. If not, well I like TW + Apex better than Sense or sense + Apex.
