It will be because of the kernel. Try one from here.

I can confirm, the kernel is the culprit for all our problems, flash faux123's 1 ghz enhanced stock kernel and then it boots

Version 2 is out using faux123's 1 ghz enhanced stock kernel by default. This version will work for everyone.

what is the method to flash this? So far, I have only flashed zipped roms that were 100-200mb..

Flash via recovery if your phone is Bootloader unloacked .....

Does this have that disappearing status bar bug as well?

I have a UK Orange and it works, flash it like any other ROM. It takes a long time to install via cwm though because it has the webtop image.
