First of all, that is not RAM, that is disk space. Don't know where the rest of it is but my guess is that it is used like a swap memory or something.

Second, I connected to my One V a pair of Skullcandy headphones (titanium) and it worked beautiful. Maybe you're having a defect jack or something. Which player do you used when the strange noise was present? Stock one?

Mate i guess that your headphones are not compatible with HTC.
Several Headphones of Nokia and Samsung are not compatible with HTC one V.

So id say that you just get a pair of Compatible headphones.

There is a 4GB memory in the phone, but only 2 are being used. Very, very unclear why the phone is being advertised as having 4GB of memory when it hasn't. Sure, technically it has, but it won't use more than 2Gb.

Also, try your phone with some more headphones to see if it's the phone or the headsets that aren't working.

the phone does have 4gb memory, but most of it is reserved for the ROM, ie: Android system files etc.
Thats why the user only gets around 1.5 gb for use.
