Default Nfc task launcher and changing notification sounds

I am trying to setup a tag in my car to change the notification sounds to silent so my wife doesn't ask "what was that" every time I get an email and it isn't working. Has anyone been successful in using nfc task launcher to do this? I this is on a HTC One x. I tried to turn the volume down but the ringer and notification sounds are linked. Please help

Does setting it to silent not work? Ill check on a one x tonight.

Edit: Grabbed a one X and gave it a shot. HTC makes default and silent the same thing >.> so when you set silent it selects default. I'll dive in tomorrow and get it sorted. Thanks HTC for another oddball implementation...

I even downloaded a silent tone from zedge and it still doesn't work

Edit: I just checked again with one of the other tones and it worked but with the tone named silence didn't work. The one that did work wa an HTC preinstalled tone though so maybe it won't work with non HTC tones I don't know.

Interestingly on my One X I can't even manually set it to silent for notification tone. Normally this would correlate to -1 as the media store position. Can you manually set the tone to slient on your one x?

The only way is to use a silent ring tone from somewhere like zedge. The volume for ringer and notification sounds are linked.

There is a "silent" option in the sound picker for AOSP devices. This is non functional though on HTC devices it seems (which is unfortunate).
