Default Otterbox Defender... Razr Maxx heat issues?

So I ended up getting the Siedio Surface case and clip for my phone. But now I'm starting to wonder about getting an otterbox defender instead. My thoughts are primarily about using my phone mounted on my bike handle bars. And while I'm pretty safe rider there always the possibility of a spill or of the phone just bouncing loose of the clip. I figure the otter box case would give better protection.

Here's my two concerns though...

First, with having the screen protector, does that effect interface with the phone? If it still very responsive to touch? Does it interfere visually at all with your phone?

Second, having the phone nearly completely encased concerns me about heat build up. Anyone notice if their phone has gotten unusually hot in a Otterbox Defender?

Thanks for any experience you can share.

Answers to your questions from using Otterbox Defender for over a year :

1.The screen protector supplied with the case is somewhat responsive, regardless of the small amount of protection it provides (screen protector) it ain't worth using it.If you are much concerned about screen responsiveness, then try the screen protectors of Steinheil Ultracrystal Screen Protector series for your specific phone.

2.I never experienced my Razr Maxx getting over heated in its defender case. Not in a year!

The defender series AND the commuter series from otterbox are both great. Personally I prefer the commuter case, and I actually found a Seidio active case holster on Amazon and it fits the commuter case perfectly. This combination works much much better than the defender case and holster.

As far as heat goes I haven't had any problems except while using wifi tether.

1. I personally don't like the screen protector. Cause it makes the whole phone feel cheap because it's more plastic then an actual screen protector.

2. The case does build up heat and in some cases a little moisture builds up between the screen protector and the phones screen. Plus it puts a real grainy look to the screen and it is very hard to clean at times.

(Just my two cents)

Sent from my .211 leak razr do you wanna get cut?
Probably sent from my Note 2 running Beans Jellybeans and battery saving with SaberKernel (Click names to check them out!)

I bought the commuter case but when playing games the phone would freeze. I assume this was from heat as it wouldn't happen with out the case. I'm thinking of cutting out most of the back, bot can't figure out how to get a clean cut on the silicone ... i use another case that doesn't give me that problem but it doesn't have the same protection level.

Default Heat Issues with COMMUTER case

I have used the Commuter Case since day one. The case and screen protector work great (screen protector isn`t as bad as people say; not the best but it is clear and not hazy like my current SGP Ultra Fine).

The case and silicone sleeve create a serious barrier against damage, but it traps heat inside. The Razr will overheat and needs to cool before it can be used. This has happened to me while using the phone on 4G AND Wifi. The phone will heat up quicker on 4G (naturally) and will overheat more as well.

I have seen other cases, but I wouldn't trust my $650 investment to anything else.

I got my case a few hours ago and I love it. I'll jump in with the crowd and answer your questions, repeating what they said:

Screen protector is responsive, it has missed a few very light touches that I was used to registering but it's seriously not a problem.

I played NFS Shift and GTA 3 for about two hours in a row today and it felt warm, but that's normal.
I wouldn't worry about the heat at all: most modern CPUs will slow down as the temperature rises into danger zones, and if they get hot enough they will freeze and/or promptly shut down.
I do like that the phone is actually something to hold now, and it gives it a distinct look: I've had three people ask me today what phone I'm sporting.

I agree, I use the same case. I actually prefer the screen protector. It gives it a nice glossy look, and it doesn't have a uncomfortable texture.
