How to manually install Ice Cream Sandwich OTA update onto your RAZR / MAXX

These instructions will allow you to upgrade your stock "6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US" Motorola Droid RAZR / RAZR MAXX to the OFFICIAL OTA Update.

If you are rooted, you will need to un-root. If you rooted your device, then you should know HOW to un-root without asking me.

Prerequisites:

■50% or higher battery charge
■A computer
■Your micro-USB cable to link phone and PC
■Stock "6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US" phone. This can be checked via Settings>About Phone> "System Version"
■All files mentioned in the guide below.
■The ability to read instructions, and realize this is NOT complicated.

Before we begin, I am going to explain WHY this process isn't just a "copy/paste a file to your phone and update" affair.

When you download the update from Verizon through the "OTA" (Over-The-Air) process, your phone is instructed, via Verizon, to initiate the update.

Since you are here, you obviously have not received the update via that process, hence your phone has not been instructed to initiate the update,

regardless of whether or not you have manually downloaded the update files off the internet and placed them onto your phone. This process will force

the phone to initiate the update.

LET THERE BE ICE CREAM SANDWICH!

1.

Using your computer, download the update from here: http://www.goiww.com/xbot.html?task=weblink.go&id=29

The update will be named "Blur_Version.6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip ", which might be confusing since it says "6.12.181" and not "6.16.211".

This is because Motorola/Verizon name their updates based on what version you are coming FROM, not going to. The file is around 354MB.

Do not unzip the file, leave it alone.

2.
Once its done, use this program to make sure the MD5 Check-sums are the same. All this does, is scan the file bit-by-bit to ensure that no data was corrupted

or lost during the download. It ensures your file is 100% correct with no problems.

MD5 Checker: http://download1us.softpedia.com/dl/...gement/md5.zip

MD5 Check-sum: 79A1EE4A992EACD1D08F98DEE5DEEBF7

Copy this and paste it into the MD5 Checker program (there is a "Paste" button) and select your
update file, and it will automatically check it. If they codes match, continue.

If not, re-download the update file.

3.
Once you verify the file is 100% correct from above, place it on your phones EXTERNAL SD card. Plug your phone up to your computer, select

USB Mass Storage from the notifications bar on your phone.

Two Micro-SD cards will open on your computer. If you aren't sure which is the external card,
then just put the update on both of them. It's not going to affect

anything to have it on both cards. If for example, your SD Cards came up as drives "E" and "F"

in Windows, then you would place the updates

in "E:\" and "F:\", essentially the root folders for those cards.

4.Download the "Razr Utility 1.7" from here: http://goiww.com/mattlgroff/DroidRaz...y1.7forICS.zip
It is 747MB. Again check it using the MD5 checker to ensure its the complete, correct file.

MD5 Check-sum: 40DC068DC4B0DFBA12C96A7D18C267E5

If the file is good, extract it to your desktop, or wherever you want. Open the file "DroidRAZRUtility.bat", you may not see the ".bat" part.

IMPORTANT

If you have old RAZR drivers installed, none at all, or aren't sure:

There is a "Drivers" folder included with "Razr Utility 1.7". Install either 32-bit or 64-bit versions depending on which type of windows

(x86 "32-bit" / or 64-bit) installation you are running on your PC. This can be checked by right-clicking "My Computer" and clicking to "Properties".

5.Turn your phone off. After the phone is off, hold down BOTH volume buttons and press the Power button. You will boot into the phones
boot loader. Using the VOLUME DOWN KEY, scroll down "AP Fastboot", and press the VOLUME UP KEY to select it.

6.
Make sure your phone is charged, at least 50% or higher, and plug it up to your computer (if it isn't already).

Start the Razr Utility 1.7, hit any key to continue when it tells you to. You will then be at a menu with options 1 through 9.

Select option 1, and follow the on-screen directions. Once it is finished the phone should reboot. Turn the phone off.

7.After the phone is off, hold down BOTH volume buttons and press the Power button. You will boot into the phones
boot loader. Using the VOLUME DOWN KEY, scroll down "Recovery", and press the VOLUME UP KEY to select it.
The phone will reboot, take a moment at a blank screen, and you will then see a green Android with an exclamation sign.

8.At the green Android and exclamation image, press BOTH volume keys at the same time and release. You are now in the phones recovery menu.
Using the volume keys, scroll down to "Apply update from external storage" and press the POWER button.

9.Scroll down to "/Blur_Version.6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip" and hit the POWER button to apply the update.

10.The update process will take up to 10 minutes. After it is done, the phone will reboot itself. You are now on the ICS OTA Update.

IF YOU ENCOUNTER ANY PROBLEMS DURING UPDATE:
Reboot the phone into recovery again using step 7. scroll down to "wipe data/factory reset", press POWER, scroll down to "yes", and again hit POWER. After
the reset is complete, repeat steps 8 & 9.

■ ( COMPLETELY OPTIONAL)

I personally recommend doing a factory reset on your phone afterwards. You don't have to. If you've ever worked with

computers and installed a newer version of Windows over an older version, you'll know the newer version will still work, but

its slowed down a little by old files from older version of Windows you just replaced. Again, this isn't necessary, but recommended.

If you wish to do this, turn your phone off. Turn it back on by holding BOTH volume buttons down, and while holding them, press the Power button.

You will then have multiple options. Use the VOLUME DOWN key to scroll down to "Recovery", then press volume up to select it. The phone will

reboot into recovery to a picture of an Android with an exclamation point. Press BOTH volume buttons at the same time and release. Use the volume keys to scroll

down to "wipe data/factory reset", and hit the power button. Scroll down to "Yes" and hit the power button. After its done, select "reboot system now".

Congrats, you now have a 100% Factory fresh, Official OTA release 4.0.4 ICS RAZR/RAZR MAXX. Enjoy :]

HUGE thanks to "mattlgroff" from droidrzr for his utility, all his hard work, and amazing support to the RAZR/MAXX community!

Thanks a million! However I've tried this thread, and a bunch of other guides to flash ICS to no avail.

Won't get past errors in stock recovery
Gives signature verification error
Than another one with a ton of numbers
And another with "Met" something something.

Yeah... and I'm on stock .181 not rooted...
Idk what to do.
Don't mind the signature of this post. I'm typing for my boyfriends razr maxx

I would like to note: You want to have a FULL Charge, not just 50% or higher Otherwise, should you run into obsticles while flashing, you will not run into "Battery Low, cannot Flash" - (that is bad)

hi there. i'm actually in the same position.

i had the bootstrapper, CWM and root. so prior to upgrading to ICS, i unrooted using oneclick tool, uninstalled boostrapper. still getting the same error as the screenshot above.

help is much appreciated. i just downloaeded 2.3.6 file from here.

http://sbf.droid-developers.org/cdma_spyder/list.php

will try to restore that and go really fresh.
thx.

update: someone at droidforums suggest this:

Quote:
I had the same status 7 problem. Go to this link -[LEAK] Official ICS for the Bionic 4.0.4 (6.7.2231) & (6.7.2233)
Follow the directions. Make sure you have RSD lite version 5.7 ( 5.6 did not work) and the latest Motorola drivers ( old ones did not work). I was on 905 rooted, had to fxz back to 902, get the OTA update and then I flashed ICS with no problems. Works great. Also it is very important that you plug USB cable directly into computer and not into a USB hub ( I learned that the hard way last year!). Good luck!
Quote:
Alright, here's how I fixed my issue. I downloaded a 902 FXZ, extracted it to my desktop. Downloaded RSDLite5.7, installed on my system. Ran RSDLite pointed it to the extracted 902 FXZ file, connected my Bionic to the computer, then started. This took several minutes but when completed, I was back on 902. With the phone disconnected from the computer, I ran the system update to get to 905. After that, I was able to flash to the ICS leak. I am not sure why this did not work initially, but I'm now running the ICS leak.
