yeah but lets discuss how far they can go and what exactly they can do based on the limitations of the phone operation systems

Will be interesting to see opinions from the people with experience with low level phone programming

The android kernel is open source completely.

As an example there is a root binary that grants root access without user prompt or notification of any kind. So while it can be done I would not worry about it much.

FEMA chip anyone?

Harry_Y is absolutely right, and anyone that thinks the law, or the courts can/will help them is sooooo naive, (every level is corrupt; hell the government makes the laws for peets sake)!!

**The Patriot Act alone was the biggest slap in the face of any kind of freedom, and a huge wake-up call 2 everyone!! Also, the law they passed giving the president, (whoever it happens 2 be @ the time), the power 2 shut down their portion of the internet, (I forgot the name of the law), any time he/she pleases, is proof enough who truly runs things!!**

If they want you - they got you - if no crime was committed - they'll fabricate one. The only chance anyone has is to fly under the radar, make the best possible life they can, and hope that, "they", never notice you exist!!

**Oh, and before anyone thinks my opinions are based on my forum name alone, I just wanted 2 say that my forum name was created years ago for a joke, so there is no correlation between the 2**

It doesn't matter which country it is. All government's all the same within the "kernel". Our privacy is exposed anyway. Anyone who thinks that he is hidden or save from bashing into his life is wrong. Many of you may think that as conspiracy but it is the real life. You can not protect anything.
Countless ways to invade the privacy of a man. If you go on and keep asking yourself if thats true or not you will end at some Psychiatry lol

Maybe Levi Strauss should sue Apple too. He came up with the single button concept on pants first. Apple copied him...........

I know for a fact that governments can remotely eavesdrop on you even when phone is off as long as the battery is in it (especially on older smartphones)

The scary part is the device used is a small suitcase containing a laptop and misc equipment that can spy, record or hijack any cellphone within the range of the nearest cell towers... it was sold to our ex-regime in egypt by a US based company for ~ 400.000$ a pop and i guess it could be available on black markets

Sorry but how do you know for a fact?

An off phone cannot monitor you because it is not connected to a cell tower (needed to send receive any commands to or from device) and it can't be controlled if there is no operating system loaded and running for it to utilise because you can't do anything on your phone without the os being on or your phone hooked up to a computer.
