DONATE TO ME
bs player works great with mkv and m4v , i stream from a local nas using smb as well with it
i always had better luck with bs player than mx, but since i haven't tried mx in months it may have gotten better - it was always my second choice

I'm using MX Player however I can't find the correct output settings for Hand brake. Tried iPad settings and it sped up the video.

It's really too bad Tegra 3 doesn't support AC3 audio. All my TV shows are in AC3 and I'm sure hardware decoding would've helped save some battery.

Since you want to watch anime, go with MX Player as it's the only video player on Google Play that supports full ASS subtitle styling. Things might be a little slow, but at least it'll display signs, typesetting and fonts properly unlike other players. I've had no problems playing 8-bit 1080p files with FLAC audio on my Transformer Prime which also runs the Tegra 3 (clockspeed shouldn't really matter since the video acceleration is a separate piece of hardware on the chip).

The nice thing about MX Player is it can also soft-decode audio while hardware decode video. The player also supports hi10p encoded videos via software decoding (use fast and set the thing to use all four cores), but depending on how the video was encoded (bitrate, ref frames, etc) you're not going to see the smoothest playback for hi10p encoded videos, especially shows with lots of action, but most should be at least watchable (720p as 1080p will not work).

Hope that helps.

Doesn't play fine for me with MX Player. 8 bit 720p files lag with HW decode. SW decode seems to play them fine, but MX Player doesn't seem to buffer on SW decode so I get buffering issues instead since I'm playing from a Windows share.

Edit: Hm... seems like it depends on the video file (or maybe audio format?). I got an 8 bit 1080p file with FLAC to play fine on hw decode. The 720p one has AAC audio. Both had an overall bitrate of ~4.3 Mbps.

Edit 2: Yep, seems like all 8 bit files with FLAC play perfectly fine with HW decode, but if it has AAC instead (even if audio is software decoded), it'll lag with HW decode.

My Plex setup works fine on my N7.

App is $5 in play but server is free and spits out dlna so any dlna player can work. Great plugins.

This worked perfectly for me thanks! The market version of dice player can now play 1080p DTS Blu Ray rips from my network without a dropped frame!

If you want to be able to watch and listen to almost any codec, there is a VLC beta for android.
