Hi there, I have the same issue as Scanman in that my Tab 10.1 also originate in the US.
I'm also not able to connect to kies via usb, although connecting via wifi and kies air is all ok.

Do not download the Kies software for the 7” tablet, The software will not work with the 10.1” model. The
Kies software is currently unavailable for the Galaxy 10.1 Tablet.
