Question A little scared about install of new OS

I want to put the jelly bean on my galaxy nexus. I used rom manager to back up current rom. When I do a factory reset and delete data. I understand this deletes everything on my phone. Like ringtones etc. Can I restore these files after I install jelly bean. If I restore the current backup file I made will this include the old OS: 4.0. Also will the backup file be removed from my phone with a factory reset?
I also downloaded viciousMIUI-V4.1-JB toro 2.8.17 is this the latest version I need for my phone.

Anything phone related will be erased, such as mentioned ringtones etc. All your SD files are safe unless you format your SD.

Per ROM, its advised to follow the instructions they give you on wiping/flashing.
Normally I use CWM with the volume buttons* and this is my wiping procedure -

1.) Wipe data/ Factory reset
2.) Mounts & Storage → Format System
3.) Flash ROM & "Gapps" if needed.

4.) Per ROM, wipe cache if necessary then reboot.

If you use titanium backup, that will help save some stress of resetting all your apps.
