very handy guide for newbies=) i could have used it a while back, i had to understand the permissions on my own

i would like to add that fx file explorer by nextapp is free from playstore and u can set permissions (and also use it as a rootbrowser) with the root addon=)

Adding the top row gives a 7 and the next 2 rows add up to 5.
There is only a single way to get a 5

Of course, there is only a single way to get any value from 1 to 7 so you can't go wrong.

So the very common 644 would be

So if somebody says to apply something weird like chmod 653... you don't have to remember what it is... open up a root explorer and check off

i guess 100 and 010 and etc numbers came from 1=true 0=false

but im not sure im not a dev:P

permission revert back after reboot

Hi thanks for the guide. I have a file (nv_data) that I change permission setting using ES Explorer, but it reverts back to old permission after I reboot my phone. Is there a way to prevent this ?
