Default [KERNEL][4.2/4.2.1] Stock kernel - CWM flashable

I've been playing with a few of the kernels available for 4.2.x so far and wanted to get back to the stock kernel in between testing kernels out. Also good for those who may have accidentally flashed a 4.1.2 kernel. This is a flashable CWM 4.2 Galaxy Nexus JOP40C kernel. Tested and working on my stock/rooted 4.2/4.2.1 GNex. As always, flash at your own risk.

Thanks to kalo86 for providing the AOSP ROM 4.2 zip where the boot image came from.

Thank you. This is definitely very helpful for people like me who aren't aware that custom kernel wouldn't be backwards compatible.

However, I'm using nexus 7, just wondering how could I extract the stock kernel from the nexus 7 factory image?
(I understand that this isn't a nexus 7 post but I'm just asking a general question on how to get the stock kernel hope that's ok)

I assume this kernel wouldn't work for my device either?

Thanks in advance.

Good question. I will create a stock kernel flash for the Nexus 7 (as I have one as well) and post it up there in the N7 XDA forum.

Also, the kernel is the boot.img file located in the zip for ROMs. You can fastboot install it, or make it into a CWM file which is good in case you don't have a computer with ADB nearby. Link to N7 Stock kernel:

Thanks!

Thank you for ur reply. Definitely gonna save me lots of time!
How do you make it a cwm file? Just zipping the .img file?

Also, I can't seems to boot into cwm recovery without a toolkit is that normal for installing an incorrect custom kernel?

Boot up holding all the buttons to get into recovery. Then flash.

Google for the cyanogenmod walkthrough on how to make a kernel flash. Its a bit in depth for here. Good luck!
