Hi Guys!

Newbie poster here but not new to the scene at all. I have been having difficulties rooting this seemingly "Unrootable" phone which happen to be MT6575 (MT6575_S01 as reported by SPFT v3.1224.01) Here are the specs which are pretty similar to the O+ 8.7 (and I was assuming it would get rooted the same way as I have rooted one the past days but this one unfortunately won't)

From MTK Droidtools:

Hardware : MT6575
Model : O+_8.75_Android
Build number : Oplus_A100ALPS.GB2.MP.V2
Build date UTC : 20121117-112624
Android v : 2.3.6
Baseband v: MAUI.11AMD.W11.50.SP.V13.P1, 2012/04/27 18:49
Kernel v : 2.6.35.7 (queen@dell-desktop) (gcc version 4.4.3 (GCC) ) #1 Sat Nov 17 19:25:05 CST 2012

I've tried several rooting solutions ruling out that this one has to be flashed with an "unsecured boot.img" first due to "ro.secure=1" restrictions

I've followed yuweng@xda's tutorials and the subsequent ones that discuss extracting and recovery.img and flashing CWM and V2 version of unsecuredboot.img to no avail.

Whenever I get to the point of "downloading" the boot.img or recovery.img (whichever method) using SPFT v3.1224.01, I press on download, click ok and ignore the warning...Press UP on volume and plug in the usb connector (PC detects it as MTK USB PORT COM5) first stage of downloading goes through then I get this error BROM ERROR:S_DL_GET_DRAM_SETTING_FAIL(5054). That's where I'm stuck right now. I'll be attaching the scatter file I extracted through adb shell and command I used is:

cat /proc/mtd
cat /proc/mtd > /sdcard/firmware.info

(BTW when following the instructions posted by yuweng@xda

cat /proc/dumchar_info > /sdcard/firmware.info

I get everything as 0's if that would help sort out the problem.

$ cat /proc/dumchar_info
cat /proc/dumchar_info

Basically i don't know where I'm going wrong and I've been trying for days to get this thing rooted. I want to install optimizers, because it has tiny internal storage that get's complaining when apps are cropping up and even sms messages get tangled up with insufficient space. Likewise want to install battery saving apps and such.

Any help would be surely appreciated. Thanks!

EDIT: On another note btw: Whenever I tried extracting my own boot.img (making an unsecured boot.img) i've always been unsuccesfull as When I use android kitchen and follow the exact instructions, I get an error that states Ramdrive folder does not exist and I don't get my unsecured boot.img produced. Just a "zimg" of some sort.

I'm sure I read and produced my stock boot.img from SPFT with the right offsets as stated here by MTKdroidtools and by "cat /proc/mtd"

$ cat /proc/mtd

So Did it Work???
Cause I also have an 0+ 8.75 and i don't know how to root it :(
t
Haven't gotten to the phone yet coz' it's my brothers. I have an 8.9 and have successfully rooted it with ease first time try. My sister's 8.7 I rooted through the tutorial here. But for the 8.75 I'm really having problems. and I would bet z4root would not work because of the fact that our boot.img is secured. I've ready from a filipino forum that one posted succesfully rooted an unrootable mt6575 (im thinking it's prbably the same chip as ours) hope a fix comes along. BTW whenever I try to flash through a diff version or lower version of SPFT it identifies my chipset as "MT6575_S01" I think it's a revised hardware.

Sure thing bro. I'm thinking use fellow O+ users would need to help each other, specially now that symbz is down and support is scarce for our precious smartphone. But I can't complain because it's just great. :D So the tool I used to get my 8.9 rooted is http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1886460 its now V18. (back then I used V15) just use normal mode, make sure you are adb connected, have usb debugging and allow untrusted sources. it'll be a snap to get your 8.9 rooted. Now, I'm trying to figure out how to update to jelly bean with custom rom, however support for O+ is zap. So good luck to us. Hit me back once you get things running. :)

Sir, as of the moment there's zero support for custom roms for this phone of ours. I'm looking for a rom that fits the phone's specs and hope to try flashing it on my phone. No fear of bricking as long as I can get into recovery and reflash my backup

O+ 8.75 Android

I also have this phone and I want to root this also so I can install Premium Tap Tap 4 songs for free.

When I found that way without any root, I did not have the right opportunity because some things in the instructions don't exist in my phone.

So I decided to find any rooting ways for O+ 8.75 Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread.

I NEED HELP!! :(

hi...i want to root my o+8.75 too so i tried to extract the boot.img from o+8.75. i think i'm successful because when i tried to change the ro.secure in the android kitchen i successfully extracted the zimage and the ramdisk and it's the correct size 5mb. the only problem is that after the procedure the boot.img size was reduced from 5mb to 3.5mb. any advice or idea? thank you.

Hi. How do you do that? Maybe I'll give it a shot.

I'm facing the same problem. I think it has something to do with the corrupted ramdisk.gzip as when I tried manually extracting it, it prints an error saying that not a gzip format, end of archive.

hi...i used sir yuweng method of extracting the boot.img and to modify it. instead of using the "dumchar_info" command in adb i've used the "mtd" command to know the address of the boot.img. i tried to flash it to my o+ 8.75 but i'm stuck with the same error posted in the first post. i hope you guys can help me. thank you. :)

guys...I've manage to root my o+ 8.75. what i did was make the boot.img unsecure using sir yuwengs method. then read all images (recovery.img, uboot.img, cache.img, system.img, sec_ro.img, logo.img, usrdata.img) after you obtain all images flash it to your o+ 8.75 using SP flash tool 2.1134 with the unsecure boot.img. after flashing you will see that the boot.img was downloaded successfully but the android or system.img did not. that's ok. turn on you o+8.75 then use superoneclick then you will gain root. i tried to flash the recovery but i did something wrong, i flashed all the images again now my o+ 8.75 wont boot but i can flash the recovery and go into CWM. i hope this will help others to root their O+ 8.75 and i hope you can help me to unbricked my celphone.
