I am sorry to hear you also deleted something useful accidentally. To be honest, I have ever also shift deleted some camera memory card photos mistakenly and tried many file recovery solutions online.
Many friends online just suggest me to apply some deleted memory card data recovery software. So, in order to take my photos back with success, I do tried many ones and finally recover most of my photos back.

Is there anything like that for retrieving data of the internal storage?
I followed these different guides but raw file using vhdtool and recuva did not give me any single file that was last present in my internal memory and even extundelete didn't return any single file that was in the internal storage, some of these tools return hundreds of text files and images that I had no idea was in my internal storage but none of them return me any of the hundreds of images and videos that I was sure were in my internal storage.
My phone is Samsung Galaxy S3(i9300) and I currently run AOSP 5.1.1 if that helps...
How to Recover Deleted Data from Internal Memory on Android
As internal memory doesn’t mount as a drive like external memory does, and common data recovery tools cannot scan Android’s internal memory for deleted or lost files and retrieve them back like external SD card. Don’t worry. Just use Android Recovery Mac, which not only can recover deleted data from external SD card, but also recover deleted data from Android phone internal memory on Mac.

I had recently use a free tool such as Stellar Data Recovery for Android on my Samsung Galaxy Phone for recovering lost pictures. It's works and easily recover my lost photos from my internal memory storage. Thanks!
