no offense taken... i was under the impression that unless the Tab 2 indicated visually that it was in download mode, then it wasn't. I've managed to get it there a few times, but it seems fairly random, even though I'm employing the same method each time.

In any event, in theory since it's showing up as "device added" in Odin, I should be able to flash the stock rom, correct? Whenever I try to do this, it fails. Should I try flashing a custom rom instead? Any thoughts? Would the bootloader be messed up perhaps--I'm not sure where to find the stock bootlader but maybe it needs to be reinstalled a well?

Thanks for your help everybody.

i'm pretty sure, correct me if i'm wrong, that odin flashables (especially using pda) have to be done within download mode... odin will recognize the device either way, but the device has to be ready to receive the data...
do you have a custom recovery installed? but also, if you do have a custom recovery, you can flash a working rom, even a stock based one... so that might be easier and bypasses having to use odin....
and yeah, the device will indicate that it's in download mode... exactly like the pics i attached.. (and yes this tablet does say it's a "phone" on the disclaimer screen)

as always though, i'm not responsible if you jack your device...

edit* another thought occurs to me, earlier you said that odin fails to install a rom. what kind of file are you trying to load into odin? because, i'm pretty sure that odin only flashes .tar files, and specific zips... and is not meant for ROM flashable .zips...
again, not trying to be rude, just trying to get to know your situation by what you've said in here.

Default CWM Recovery

Can anyone help me re-install CWM recovery on my GTP3113?

I think I must have installed the wrong version (with Odin) when I rooted my device, because, although it seemed to be working OK at first, now I can not see the device or sd cards when connected to my computer by USB. Consequently, I can not use Odin to download files from my pc. I downloaded the ROM Manager apk, which is pretty cool, but it fails to install the recovery program. It appears to download the correct version, but then gives an error message that it did not install, which makes be believe I have other corrupt (or just plain wrong) android files.

I thought maybe Mobile Odin could work, but my understanding of it is that the tab needs to be booted up to run the program, and with corrupt files... I have tried different ROM's that I could download to the tab and install (with the version of CWM recovery I currently have), but there are still problems.

Thanks in advance! You guys are great!

so you can't get into download mode, and you're not rooted?
but you have access to your recovery?
are you on jellybean or ics?

I can get the tab into download mode, but the pc attached by usb does not recognize and display the device or sd cards. So, I can not push files with Odin.

I can get into recovery.

I am rooted.

I am using cyanogen mod 10.1.

Thanks for even thinking of helping me!

My device refuses to display the "download mode" screen...

and no, i don't have any custom recovery installed.

The stock ROM file I'm attempting to flash back to is a .tar. Should i be trying something else? If so, do you have a link?

the .tar is right... its so strange that you can't get into download mode..... however, i found out that it is completely impossible to boot into download mode or recovery mode when the device is plugged in... you can boot into recovery right?
If you can get back into recovery, try and perform a full reset: do a factory reset and wipe caches.
when i odin back to unrooted stock on my phone sometimes it gets caught in a boot loop if i didn't do this afterword..
so maybe try that if you haven't.. besides that, i couldn't find an odin file with a working link in the dev section...
if that still doesn't work.. then its beyond me... since you can't get into download mode it makes things a little more difficult...

If you have further questions for that, please come back to us.
Usually rooting is independent from the version you're currently running.

For the recovery.img: can you create a tar archive?
There are numerous tools for that - ru using total commander? replace the ZIP at the beginning of the preposition when hitting Alt-F5 through TAR... etc.
Download a clockwordmod recovery_somewhat_version.img file, rename it to just recovery.img, tar it to a file named as your preference.TAR (without .md5) and open Odin.
Select it to PDA and start the download...
... that should it be.

Kind regards - Chris
Sorry for not replying to you sooner. I followed your advice and it worked 100%. I now have the latest CM 10.1 nightly working without any problems so far on my tablet. You are awesome!!

I tried connecting to a different computer with the same problem, so I think it is the tablet.

Other funny things happen on the tab that make me believe there is some underlying problem. For example: when i try to open the storage tab in settings, I get an error message, something to the effect that "Unfortunately, settings has stopped." Also, remember that when I try to use ClockworkMod ROM manager, it starts the download, but does not complete the installation. When I use a file manager, it does not show the ext sd card, yet I can access some files on the ext sd card while in recovery.

I still think the problem is with my recovery files. I would like to reinstall, hoping things would get better. My next approach is to take the ext sd card out of the tab and mount to my pc, where I can still transfer files. If I could figure out how to convert an .img file to a zip file, I could convert one of the official CWM recovery files, place it on the ext sd card, reinsert to the tab and flash it. RIGHT???

BTW, I do not know what kies is, so I doubt if I have it.

Default Re: The Galaxy Tab 2 Help Thread [Ask Any Question!]

I have a flash able zip for the touch version of the newest CWM.. I posted it over here; http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=38248312
Flash it and then reboot recovery..
Also try flashing stuff from internal memory instead of external.
Maybe your sd card is corrupt as well?.. Your phone not being able to read the card and recovery "sort of" sees it is a symptom of that.. but maybe it's the rom.. I can't remember if you said you flashed other roms..

One thing you can do to isolate the problem is to odin back to stock and completely wipe everything including internal storage, so make sure you back EVERYTHING up that you can. .
But that requires your tablet to be recognized by your computer,...

so odin doesn't see your tablet when it's in download mode?

And finally, kies is a Samsung application for your pc, and when you install it, it installs drivers for your device. also you can wirelessly connect your device to your computer with it as well..
