Of course it is active on the One X. I'm not 100% sure if it is the case for SMS, as I rarely use SMS anyways, but it is certainly true for GMail.

I'm talking about the SMS tone. There's a notification in the status bar when we got a message while in call, no tone. At least for me.

Well, that's details - I'm talking about messaging tones in general, regardless of the source. It happens definitely with my One X for various types of notifications.

Or simply only making calls with activated loudspeakers and holding the device 50cm in front of you. Preferrable in a train or bus.
