Custom ROM with less storage space

Hi there,

I would like to ask you : when I flash any custom rom to my SGT 2 7.0, I have less than 50 % of storage capacity than with stock rom. With stock I have about 4 GB and with custom rom I have about 1,8 GB. Can somebody explain me why ? Everytime I make Factory reset, Wipe Data, cash and dalvik too.
Unfortunatelly this is reason why i have to have stock rom

There is an option in cwm to release space not needed. That should give you about two more gigs

and where is it ?

Boot into cwm then choose back up and restore then free unused back up data
