Hello guys canonical finally released there new mobile phone OS developer edition don't expect this to replace android as it is in very early stages and is not intended for public consumption but this is xda and we flash everything be it alpha beta omega lol anyways let's begin

Flashing via cwm
  • First make sure your phone is supported that is posted in the second post HERE also and download the files required there linked next to the phone also in second post
  • Place downloaded files on root of your sd card meaning not in any folder or sdcard/here
  • Acquire cwm for your device follow the guides below

    Galaxy nexus
    http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1628477

    Nexus 7
    http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1809195

    Nexus 4
    http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1995688

    Nexus 10
    http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1996900
  • Boot into recovery by pressing and holding vol up+ power+ home
  • in this mode touch is disabled use vol up/down to scroll and home to select scroll to and select backups and restore now select backup wait till done
  • I've heard that flashing will wipe your sd card from sum1 I doubt though but just to be sure copy sd card data to pc
  • Now scroll to and select wipe data, and wipe cache
  • Now scroll to and select install zip from sd card and select the to files more reboot to ubuntu

This can also be done with twrp recovery

Restoring android
  • Go into recovery as shown above scroll to backup and restore
  • Select restore
You can also get rid of it by flashing any Rom

Re: [How to] Flash ubuntu on your phone

What works (according to canonical)
  • Shell and core applications
  • Connection to the GSM network
  • (on Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4)
  • Phone calls and SMS (on Galaxy
    Nexus and Nexus 4)
  • Networking via Wifi
  • Functional camera (front and
    back)
  • Device accessible through the
    Android debug Bridge tool
    (adb)

What doesn't work
  • 3G/4G Data
  • Audio Out via Headphones
  • HDMI
  • Bluetooth
  • Charging Indicator
  • Software Center (Note : You can
    install simple shell applications
via apt-get install ... once inside
    the chroot)
  • Most applications are links I.e u scroll to gmail app and it opens a web browser to m. Gmail.com
  • MMS
  • CDMA Connections
  • SIM Storage
  • Auto Rotation (Or any rotation for
    that matter)
  • Crashes when swiping notifications sometimes

yes wipes all data, but heres a custom recovery flashable zip of Ubuntu Touch, so you can just make a nandroid then flash it, try it out and nandroid back.

http://www.droid-life.com/2013/02/2...view-on-a-nexus-device-using-custom-recovery/

When you say wipes all data, does this mean I need to backup my /sdcard/ directory also (say, to my pc)? Or is a normal nandroid, where the backup is saved to the Nexus 4's /sdcard/ directory sufficient? Thanks.

Re: [How to] Flash Ubuntu touch on your android phone

Hey man just wanted to pop in and say great job with the organization of this particular forum...I'm still a noob when it comes to a lot of this stuff but the first five rules I've learned of XDA are 1) read 2) read again 3) read more 4) read EVERYTHING and 5) read it again!

But I'd like to ask after formatting system, data, cache, and dalvik then flashing the two zips I make it to the Ubuntu welcome screen and after waiting about 7 min I can't do anything or get out of that screen...at first I thought my screen just frozen but the time keeps going so I figured I'd just restore my back up and follow rules 1 - 5 lol

I flashed on my nexus 4 and was just curious to see if there was anything I forgot or obviously didn't read? Thanks in advance :)

If it boots it should be good... Its just to unlock it you have to swipe from right bezel to left.
If you know that... Oh well :p
It took me 30 minutes to unlock my Ubuntu nexus 4
