[Q] what Google Services Framework does?

Search This thread
Hello!

i was looking my BetterBatteryStats log for wakeups and i saw that:

com.google.android.gsf
20833ms running, 113 wakeups
31 alarms: flg=0x4
27 alarms: act=com.google.android.intent.action.GTALK_RECONNECT flg=0x4
55 alarms: act=com.google.android.intent.action.GTALK_HEARTBEAT flg=0x4

after some googling i saw that this is the Google Services Framework.

i googled once more about this but i can't get it.

What is Google Services Framework doing exactly?

I read that it has to do with android updates, but my phone isn't supported anymore, so i don't care about it.

is it safe to disable it?

Updates in regard to your apps, not firmware, so yes you still need it probably

Hi

I have an S3 I9305, but my problem is the same. Using Pdroid I restricted the rights of many Services, and also Google Framework Services.

The latter uses most of my battery, and I have no idea what it's good for, nor what it's good for...

(does it need access to my SMS?
and to change the WiFi status?
and can I provide a fake phone number to this service to protect my privacy?)

thanks

Can not find Google Search

Please help total newb here. The irony of this post is striking at least to me. Anyway I can not find "Google Search" anywhere in /system/app/
of course I can find it under setttings- applications and can disable it from there but I can not find it in the mentioned directory. And I really want to delete it.

Thanx in advance,

I've notices that Google Play Services update on very old versions of Android. Does the framework APIs only apply to apps that specifically use that particular framework or will the framework also override (trap) old Android API as well?
