Can you be more precise what happened to your phone? Can you boot in the rom? If not debugging won't help... What are you trying to do, data backup?

What is your rom version? Bootloader unlocked?

LONG MESSAGE INBOUND

I own two touchscreens; a Samsung Galaxy J200H and a HTC ONE (M7)
The M7 is giving the problems...

So a few days ago I moved to Lineage OS 14.1, as I really liked it on my J2, and it worked really well on my HTC, no problems.
I flashed Xposed Framework, and that's when the trouble started.
Xposed caused a bootloop - as usual. But I didn't panic, I just went to wipe cache, dalvik cache and so forth.
I went to fix myself a snack, and when I returned, I found that I had been victim to a prank by my sister or niece (or both) as they had added internal storage and system OS to the wipe list.
I simply decided to ADB sideload a ROM so as to fix my HTC. However, I remembered USB debugging was disabled. So I went to just move a TWRP backup to my M7.
I connected my M7 to my Win 10 laptop but nothing happened, no windows connection sound; no unknown showed up in device manager either:
https://postimg.org/image/5qu0tpvlj/
I used the process of elimination to see what was causing the problem
PCs:
I tried four different PCs altogether;
My Win 10 laptop: Samsung connects, HTC does not.
My sister's Win 10 desktop: Samsung connects, HTC does not.
My Dad's Win 8.1 desktop: Samsung connects, HTC does not.
The OLD family Win 10 laptop: Neither connects (but that laptop was on its last pair of legs anyway ¬_¬)

I bought a new USB cable and did it again, getting the same results...

Finally, I tried a USB OTG cable... with no luck.

So I wanna see if I can use the Terminal in TWRP to enable USB debugging, so I can ADB sideload a ROM

USB debugging won't help, the only purpose of that option is to enable ADB when booted in the rom. ADB works in custom recovery (ie TWRP) no matters if USB debugging was turned on or off. Same for FASTBOOT, will work in bootloader even if usb debugging is off. Can you tell me if your phone is detected in your device manager when in bootloader (with the phone in fastboot mode). Is your phone showing "FASTBOOT USB" in red?

If you can only see " fastboot" in red but not "fasboot usb" then there is no data connection between your phone and your computer. Since usb otg doesn't work neither it might be a defective usb port or the usb board.

So what can I do, or am I screwed?
Edit: the phone still charges...
Edit 2: While cleaning the port, I realised there is only two gold pins, is this normal
https://ibb.co/gOCi4n
Edit 3: Can anyone point me in the direction of a working USB to MICRO USB transfer cable that works with HTC ONE M7??

The connections used for data transfer are not the same used for power. Even if your phone can still charge doesn't mean your usb port isn't defective. there are 5 contacts in a micro usb port:

1: +5V
2: Rx
3: Tx
4: ID
5: Ground

Pins 1 and 5 are used for charging, pin 2 and 3 for data transfer. Pin 4 is used to detect accessories, for example, if connected to a car dock, the correct resistance value will be coupled to pin 4 and that will trigger car app to launch automatically.

When looking at your picture, pin #1 is to the right and pin 5 to the left. Looks like there is something wrong with pins 2 and 3 since we can see something stuck (gold colored) deep inside the port. That shouldn't be there and might be the problem (looks like the gold contacts from pin 2 and 3 peeled off and was pushed inward. Double checked with mine and there is nothing like in your picture.

Any usb data cable should work with the M7, if your cable works for others devices it's good for the M7.

So you'll probably need to replace usb dock board which is a small pcb with the usb port and microphone soldered on. It's connected to the motherboard with a flexible flat cable. This part is pretty cheap but the m7 is not the easiest phone to disassemble...

So it's time to take it to a repair shop?

you

So it's time to take it to a repair shop?

Unless you have good skills with very, but very small electronic repairs you should bring it to the repair shop.
The part cost around 10$ so that shouldn't be really expensive to get done by a professional.

If you want to try yourself:
Part:
https://www.amazon.com/ePartSolution-HTC-Charger-Charging-Connector-Repair/dp/B00GZZKVVM

How to:
https://fr.ifixit.com/Teardown/HTC+One+Teardown/13494?lang=en
look at step 18

Take in consideration that you will most likely need a new cover, almost everyone attempting to disassemble the M7 by themselve ended with a cracked cover (really fragile around the volume buttons). Flex flat cables and their connectors are also easily damaged.

Thanks for all your help. I'll order in the part and then take it to a specialist. Again, thanks a bunch! I'll come back here if I ever need any further support.

What is the order you do things to upgrade an M7 to the latest and greatest

Hi,
Feeling a little overwhelmed by all the information on this site and don't really know where to start, seriously a blind man in a dark room just banging off the furniture trying to find the door for many hours.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the first so wondering is there an idiot guide as far as the the order you should do things and what each piece of the puzzle is.
Bootloader? Rooting? Flashing? s-on/s-off? ROMS? ADB? TWRP? OTG cable? SuperSU.zip? firewater? What does everything in the getvar mean etc.

So I'm trying to fix my mom's M7. T-Mobile.

When you turn it on it goes to a screen

Decrypt Storage

To Enter Android, Enter your Password

Then 2 buttons
Emergency Call
Decrypt
30 attempts remain before device data is deleted.

Then what ever you enter for the password is declared: The password you entered is correct but unfortunately your data is corrupt.
To resume using your phone you need to perform a factory reset.
Button:
Reset phone.

Tried all the options in the bootloader menu to no avail.
Then started reading without really understanding what I was doing, but figured I could somehow re install the OS.
So first I unlocked the bootloader.

So the first lines of the bootloader now read
TAMPERED
UNLOCKED
M7_UL PVT SHIP S-ONB RH
HBOOT-1.61.0000
RADIO-4T.35.3218.16
OPENDSP-v35.120.274.0718
OS-
eMMC-boot 2048MB
Aug 19 2015,03:47:53.0

fastboot getvar all gives me :

(bootloader) version: 0.5
(bootloader) version-bootloader: 1.61.0000
(bootloader) version-baseband: 4T.35.3218.16 ??????
(bootloader) version-cpld: None
(bootloader) version-microp: None

(bootloader) partition-layout: Generic
(bootloader) security: on
(bootloader) build-mode: SHIP
(bootloader) boot-mode: FASTBOOT
(bootloader) commitno-bootloader: dirty-5fbd03bf
(bootloader) hbootpreupdate: 11
(bootloader) gencheckpt: 0
all: Done!
finished. total time: 0.116s

Then somehow or other using ADB I've managed to get TWRP on the phone so if I select Recovery from the bootloader menu it boots into TWRP. I got that far and then had no clue what I was supposed to do next!

Then following the guide to
[NOOBS Guide] HTC ONE SUPERCID method via fastboot(No script or editing required)
Seemed like a good idea.
Except I fell down at the first gate and was unable to change my CID !!

C:\Fastboot>fastboot oem readcid
...
(bootloader) cid: T-MOB010
OKAY [ 0.001s]
finished. total time: 0.003s

C:\Fastboot>fastboot oem writecid 11111111
...
(bootloader) [JAVACARD_ERR] SD/USBDISK Init error
OKAY [ 0.001s]

C:\Fastboot>fastboot oem readcid
...
(bootloader) cid: T-MOB010
OKAY [ 0.001s]
finished. total time: 0.003s

then there are the fastboot commands..
like
Fastboot oem task 28
Fastboot oem task 29
Fastboot reboot

C:\Fastboot>fastboot oem task 28
...
(bootloader) Format start
(bootloader) eMMC Manufacturer ID: 90
(bootloader) Start Verify: 3
(bootloader) Format end
OKAY [ 20.388s]
finished. total time: 20.389s

C:\Fastboot>fastboot oem task 29
...
(bootloader) Format BINFS start
(bootloader) System partition only can be formated while security is OFF
(bootloader) eMMC Manufacturer ID: 90
(bootloader) eMMC Manufacturer ID: 90
(bootloader) Start Verify: 3
(bootloader) Format BINFS end
OKAY [ 20.894s]
finished. total time: 20.894s

So looks like I have to get to S-OFF... ??? should I what's the best route ?

Well crap.. rebooted and it's started up like it's all fresh from the t-mobile store!
Looks like that
Fastboot oem task 28
Fastboot oem task 29
Fastboot reboot

Did something after all!
Shows
Android Version : 5.0.2 (so Lollipop)

Build number : 7.18.531.35.CL476210 release-keys

And now I'm kind of wondering what I should be doing.. or if someone with half a clue was trying to get this phone working what they would do.

Should I root it ? what's the latest and greatest OS to put on it? What can I upgrade and change etc ?

Thank for any pointers, or links directions to the guide that I have been unable to find as my head is now just mush.

Thanks again.

Either do an RUU for your phone, or try a factory reset from twrp.

You cannot super CID since you are still s-on. Only way to S-off is to run Sunshine. Other methods got patched by HTC.

Unlocking bootloader should have erased user data already and you should be able to boot now.

For my mother, I would keep it stock. Personally I would run the latest official AOSP based ROM on the phone, but wouldn't advise it to a family member that might call me on their land line asking to fix their brick.

Hey, thanks for response and thoughts.

Why am I getting Super CID ?
I have S-on... why would I want S-OFF ?

Good thought about keeping it stock for my mother.. Now I am kind of getting hooked and have the phone for a while..
I should be able to get it back to stock right ?
Thinking of trying to upgrade it :)

How do I find out what the latest firmware baseband is for this phone? what are the Id's I should be paying attention to?
How do I find which AOSP based ROM would work on this phone ? again which Id's should I be paying attention to?

If I want to get AOSP based ROM.. what is the prodedure? Which ASOP would you recommend ?
Do I need super CID? Do I need S-OFF? Do I need to Root the phone?

Again thanks for the response.

Hi there!
I'm using Resurrection Remix OS Nougat , I would like to upgrade to Resurrection Remix OS Oreo. I have a seemingly extremely noobish question, but I'll explain my reasoning:

Will upgrading from N to O wipe all my data?

I ask this seemingly idiotic question because I vaguely remember upgrading from RROS M to RROS N, and everything was still there... Even GApps! I'm not sure if I'm not remembering it correctly, because it was over a year ago but I don't remember myself re-downloading all of those 2GB children's MMOs that I'm addicted to.

Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

(Also if you feel this question not suitable for this thread just tell me, I'll be happy to move it to the RR thread!)

This is a thread to behave in a tolerant way, taking into consideration that the user posting queries might have never even heard words such as “adb” or “ROM", so, if you are not willing to be helpful, I kindly invite you to browse into another thread.

Take S-Off for Security Off. With S-Off you can directly write to kernel, bootladers and radio, while S-On devices would need a second device (a PC) to write to those areas. Its like a protection mechanism for us not to brick our phones (at least not as easy).
There is plenty of explanations at our forums if you want t get into technical details or just want another explanation. Just try using the search button in the right top corner of XDA pages, you will be amazed how much you can find ;).

Guys, please keep your questions device specific.
We can't be discussing Galaxy Tabs here.
    Thanks

I am going to go with a NO in that subject.

Although there are plenty of methods that have been successful in several handsets in the past by using third party hardware, it can get complicated even for a advanced users to do so, since it might involve technichal aspects only manufacturers know about.

Normally, these methods are developed and posted here, depeding on the handset, it might be easy or not. Not so many years ago, these methods were as easy as flashing a "untouched" firmware, but lately, manufacturers have been implementing methods to detect if we have touched the bootloader and have increasingly making it harder for developers to break them, thus returning to a "factory untouched" state is getting harder with every new device.

In short, If you want your warranty intact beyond the existence of any doubt, do not root.

Okay, then, I have a newbie question: can someone explain exactly what "S-Off" means?
