Default Old tool: xda2unlock (now updated)

UPDATE: This tool has been superseded by a newer version. This new tool does not work for Radio version 1.05.12 (see below). The new tool works for 1.05.12A and later. For more information on the new tool see the new thread

==============================================

This is old information. Only use this method for 1.05.12

Despite some set-backs and not precisely the easy tool we want (yet), we didn't want to hold this back.
We are proud to present the new unlock tool for the XDA II!

One of the prerequisites for using this tool is puting the XDA II in bootloader mode.
Unfortunately this will also mean a hard reset of the device: you will loose all current data!
So the advice is: MAKE A BACK-UP FIRST! (And test that it works).
Puting the device in bootloader mode requires pressing three buttons at once:
The Power button, the Action button (also called Navigation pad)
and the Reset button in a hole at the bottom with the stylus.

When you run this tool on your PC, it will run in a DOS box and extract the unlock code from the device.
It will probably not work on Windows 98, but it does on Windows 2000 and XP.

This tool was tested with Radio version 1.06.x. It might not work on Radio version 1.10.x!

It won't unlock the device for you. You can do it through the standard interface.

When you run it, it looks like this:

Code:

                   XDA Developers XDA2UNLOCK tool

This program will extract the unlock code from your XDA II.
For this to be possible, a few steps are necessary:

1. The XDA II needs to be put in bootloader mode.
NOTE: THIS WILL WIPE ALL YOUR DATA SO FIRST BACK-UP!

You enter the bootloader by holding the Power button and the Action button
while pressing the stylus in the reset hole on the bottom.
In the bootloader mode, the display will be gray and say Serial at the top.

2. Next put the device in the USB cradle. The display will now say USB
and the first time Windows will detect a new device.

3. Disable USB in Active Sync in 'File -> Connection Settings'

Now the device is ready to extract the unlock code.
Type YES when you have completed the above steps and want to continue: YES

Communication port opened.
waiting for radio bootloader
reading first block...
reading second block...

     Unlock code: 2040248

When you insert a blocked SIM in your XDA2,
you can enter the above code in the SIMLock box.

Alternatively, you can connect to the wireless modem
and enter the following AT command:
AT%HTCLOCK=0,2040248,1

Do not forget to enable USB in Active Sync again!

working on that one. seems to be protected rather good. I suspect that unprotecting it will involve reformatting the partitions. and then reloading them with data.

Woops, my mistake. I added an extra "Press enter" line so it pauses.

You can download the new version from the usual place:
