Default Brando retractable usb makes the xda whistle.

I bought 2 Brando retractable usb/sync/charger cables, they work fine on the xda2 as long as the battery hasent dropped too low, however on 3 different xda 1 units I have tried I get a high pitched whistling from the pda. I have also notices that the latching pins at the side of the connecter that plugs into the xda are to the bottom of the xda, whereas all other cables have the latches to the top, could this be the problem.

I found the answer to this, Developers Special Edition Rom is the culprit, all 3 xda's I tested it on had the special edition rom, the only way to stop the whistling was to switch off the speaker. As the only thing in common was the operating system I though I would experiment, I upgraded one of them to WM2003, no whistling, reflash to Special edition rom, whistling comes back, how bizarre is that? I have tried this numerous times, only the xda that is flashed with se rom 1.2 whistles and hisses.  :?:
