Default XDAll and TOMTOM 3 GPS BT

For all of you who are interested I purchased a TOMTOM 3 Bluetooth GPS system with UK maps.
The bluetooth unit linked immediatley and works perfectly with the XDAll.

I already had in the car a PARROTBLUE hand free unit, while I did not expect the Parrot and the TOMTOM3 to work at the same time, there is a fault however and that is that it disconnects my PARROTBLUE handsfree unit whenever I use the TOMTOM.
I have to re-register the XDAll again with the Parrot after I have finished using the TOMTOM. I never have to re-register the TOMTOM3.
I have never had GPS and I was very impressed with the TOMTOM3 unit, although it took a whole day before it started working, but once started it carried on just fine. Note: The TOMTOM 3 is now priced well over £100 LESS than the previous TOMTOM 2

Hi Sam, do you power your Bluetooth receiver or XDA II in car ? If so what cable did you buy and is it a joint charger?

I have the TOMTOM 3 Bluetooth GPS system with UK maps which came yesterday for £187 (I am a GPS virgin too )

It worked instantly out of the box and my Bluetooth headset works in harmony with the GPS!! which I was suprised about

I have the GPS receiver on the rear parcel shelf and was thinking of powering it from there. The XDAII is on a magnetic windscreen mount.

But I have tried the receiver next to the cigarette lighter on the floor and in the drivers cubby hole and it works fine !! I'm well impressed !

Default tomtom3 power

i purchased a xda/xdaii universal car holder and charger. The holder would not close enough to grip the xdall . The car charger powered both xdall and tomtom3, but it kept unpluging itself from the xdall . I have returned it and am waiting for them to get me another of the same to see if it is any better. I do not think it
will be, but we will see. The item was Tomtom branded.
I have reverted back to my tried and tested way of mouting my xdaii and thats with velcro on the back. I do not use my xdall with a case so the velcro works fine.

Fishmedia,

Where did you get your TTN3 + BT GPS for £187 - I'm interested as I have TTN2 but with the wired recevier and was thinking about upgrading (next month) for the 49 Euro special offer and then investing in the BT GPS? But it may be cheaper if I went for the deal you got - and it means I can play with the new toy sooner

Default TOMTOM3 UPGRADE

So TomTom are going to allow us to upgrade in a months time! Great! Will this upgrade feature anything as sensible as 1 DVD in place of the moronic 8 unmarked CD's on the 2 version.
I wanted to load Sweden, I had marked the cover with an S, insert disk, choose Sweden, have to quit & insert another disk, Grrrr!
Insert disk, go thru moronic TomTom options, choose size of map.
Have to quit, insert a third disk! go thru moronic TomTom options again, if I hadn't been travelling Sweden for a week, I would probably have left before I found my first route! Grrrrrr!
And why did I have to buy UK maps with the gps kit when they are on Western Europe? Grrrr!
It's a bloody expensive package to be packed in such a shabby, ill thought out, way!!!!
I hope this next version is a damn sight better!
anyone know how much GPRS data the traffic service will use?
Chop! The mad Welshman, lost in the urban jungle somewhere between LLanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwrndrobwllllantisiliog ogogoch and Vladivostok!

Default TOMTOM3

I do not think it is any better with regard to setup and install, as I have never had a gps before I cannot comment on how good it is.
I can however comment on the instructions that came with it, they were the pits! There was nothing even to tell me what the button on the unit was for, how to turn it on or even what the lights were for.
With regard to installation it wanted me to register on line, but could not get past my office proxy server.

When it cam to the maps there was:
1. UK Map
2. Main Roads of Europe map
3. 64k uk map
4. 32k uk map
5. 16k uk map.
Being a complete novice and as there was no instructions to the contrary and also as I had the space I loaded all.
Of Course after speaking to TomTom tech help they informed me that all I need load was UK Map and If I have the space Main Roads of Europe.
The other maps are for people who do not have the memory space.

Hi Sam,

I was hoping to get a car charger without having to also buy another holder and mounts.

I guess you are talking about the TomTom 'holder' or the TomTom 'car kit' (both come with holders and mounts)

Simon, the unit was purchased from Expansys .............

Get a custom made mount for the XDA.

www.brodit.com produces active mounts with power for the XDA. I use a split power cable which powers the XDA mount as well as supplying power for my Emtach Bluetooth GPS.

Brodit also produces snap-on attachments for most car models - you typicaly attach the mount in a ventilation grille and screw the PDA holder to the mount. This is a very attractive solution.

Default Difference between Tomtom 3 and Tomtom2??

Hello,

I am confused about the difference between tomtom gps2 and tomtom gps 3. Is the difference only in the mapping software or the bluetooth gps receiver is different? I have an XDA II in the USA and looking to buy an tomtom bluetooth gps 2. Will it work on my XDAII since tomtom bluetooth gps 2 works fine? Thank you.

Well I don't know for sure but my Bluetooth GPS receiver V3 sure looks like the V2

However, I have seen pictures of the V2 with a unit that slots onto the side for docking. All I have is 1 small reciever and 1 240v cable!

My unit is in the pictures above.
