Default XDA II newbie questions: carkit, satnav and barcode scanner

Hi ya,

My missus won a new unlocked XDA II in a draw yesterday. I know very little about the XDA II other than what I have read on here, so please be gentle. I've read some of the discussions about carkits and satnav. Anyway,

Q: What is the recommended carkit and satnav system where the GPS can also be used on battery when out and about away from the car?

Q: Is the inbuilt memory big enough to hold UK maps for satnav or does it require an external memory card aswell?

I'm doing some development for PPC2003 that will use a barcode scanner. I assume that to use a barcode scanner on the XDA II I would also need the expansion port kit.

Q: Does the XDA II work with carkits, satnav, cases etc. with the expansion port kit fitted? Or is the expansion port kit intended to be fitted when needed and not a permanent fixture?

Thanks!

Depends. If you want to use a CF scanner then yes, but if you find a serial scanner then no.

Because the XDA2 supports SDIO you could use this for barcode scanning and this for GPS.

These are not recommendations as I have no experience of either, simply a pointer to what should work.

What is the reason that a serial barcode scanner could not be interfaced to the serial lines on the bottom connecter?
Thank god I am an atheist.
