There isn't a program to do it yet, I got my MDAIII unlocked by paying T-Mobile £15, perhaps Orange will let you do the same.

How is that possible? I just rang T-mobile and asked them if it is possible to unlock an MDA Compact. It would cost me 120 euro...

Other users have also had their phones unlocked by their service providers and no-one has mentioned such a price. I've actually had two MDA3's unlocked after sending the first one back under warranty.

I really am  at the Dutch T-mobile.

They just told me if I want to unlock my MDA compact it would cost:
within 0-3 months after you buy the phone: 120 euro
3-6 months: 90 euro
6-9 months: 70 euro
9-12 months: 50 euro
after 12 months: free

But is it possible to use a code from england or something??

I'm sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, the code is unique to each device. I'm sure that an unlock tool will eventually be available here.

Hi!

The other day I bought a MDA III but I can´t use as a mobile phone because of the simlock. I am waiting for a new tool to get my unlock code, which only depends on your IMEI. Until now, you have to pay 15 pounds to T-mobile if you want to unlock your SIM, but I hope in this page somebody will be able to make a tool like xda2unlock.exe for the XDA II. If somebody has got to unlock the MDA III´s SIM, let us know, please. Thanks.

I think there is not much reason to be mad at any operator charging money for early (ie before initial contract end) SIM lock removal.

Reason for that is simple: You were given a discount that depends on the initial value of the contract you got the device with. Without SIM lock, the device would have costed you much more.
That sounds fair to me.

If you do not want a SIM lock, just buy without a contract. Those devices should be SIM lock free (ask beforehand) or can be made SIM lock free for an administrative fee (of ie 15 GBP / 25 euro).

I bet the above difference between the situations (15 GBP, 90 euro, 120 euro) can be led back to this theory.

You might get lucky beforehand by removing the SIM lock (which is NOT illegal) yourself (with software, a hacked code or 'some' luck)
