Default File transfer from PC to SD card in MDA Compact, Active Sync

I cannot copy a file ( movie, MP3, text file etc) directly from my PC to the SD card in the MDA. In Active Sync I should do this using the Explore button, but when I press it I get the following error: "Critical Communications Services have failed to start. Try resetting your Mobile Device and connect it again". Well, resetting and reconnecting doesn't work, reinstalling active sync doesn't work and opening the Mobile Device icon in my Windows Explorer on my pc gives the same error.

So now I have to copy each file into RAM first and then to my storage card, but since most avi files are too big for the RAM, this is not good enough. Does anyone know what causes the error and how I can fix it?

You didn't mentioned if the issue is related to a single SD or not.
If yes, perhaps a card format (eventually from Windows Mobile) may help...

Default SD Card Locked?

Hello there

Have you set your SD card to 'Lock'? I have tried transferrring to and from the JAM without any issues so far using both Bluetooth and USB activesync.

Moreover you did mention that you are able to sync, so its not likely to be an activesync problem either. Finally, if you have a desktop firewall you should probably check the settings on that as well - you may have inadvertently (or knowingly) disabled filetransfers of certain types.

Default It was the firewall...

Ok, I feel sooooo stupid right now!
Your remarks about the firewall triggered my memory, I use the Zonealarm firewall, and altough I had enabled internet access I had not enabled file transfer... After enabling that, I can now see the SD card in Explore. Thanks for your advice!

Default Cool

Good to hear that you've sorted it out. Funny I didnt have the issue with Zone Alarm or NIS, though...must check it out!

The problem was related to the fact that I had not allowed Windows Explorer to access the internet. After I adjusted that, file transfer through Explorer is working fine. thanks for the advice!
