Default BMW 745i Phone Unlocking

Hi

i have just recently bought a 2002 BMW 745i with a built in phone kit.. i don't collect it till the end of the week so i'm not sure if it is bluetooth or hardwired..

in the event that it is hardwired can anybody tell me if the phone software can be unlocked to allow non GSM phone sims to work.. i.e. i am on the PCM orange network and BMW usually supply GSM compatible phone system for use with O2 and Vodafone etc

can these phones be unlocked like a conventional mobile phone so that i can run any network on them

any help would be appreciated

cheers

deano

if it was made in 2002, it's probably bluetooth.
That said, if i'm wrong and there is an actual phone in there, it should be possible to unlock it. You can just call the service provider after a while and just tell them you're going out of the country and you would like your phone to be unlocked. They'll usually give you an unlock code. Then you just put in your other sim and insert the unlock code when prompted. Even better that you're in Europe. USA has too many laws protecting companies from catering to their consumers.

However, if the phone is GSM and you want to unlock it another mobile standard, say CDMA, this is impossible.

I've heard that you need to access the car's ECU map to unlock it. This was from a chap who tinkers with ECUs as a hobby and he happenned to mention about the BMW phones.
