Default HOW TO Hard reset HTC Universal

Thought i'd post this up as it took me loads of searching the internet to find this.....

To hard reset HTC Universal you open the device, press two soft keys together whilst pressing the reset button on the back with the stylus, you then get up a message on scren saying "Press 0 to reset to factory defaults or X to exit"

Press 0 and the device performs a factiry reset.

This is probably common knowledge but took me ages to find.

this is going to be a stupid question, but whats the difference between doing this and clearing storage from within wm5?

Nothing... just it's a bit hard to tap the clear storage icon when your device won't startup properly...

Fair point - I stand suitably chastised.

Luckily I haven't had the need to do a full reset like that but thanks for giving me a reason!

now then...when i did a hard reset, i found that the wifi access points were still listed, so the hard reset didn't remove this bit.

of course, i may have been hallucinating.

but i am definitely not convinced a hard reset removes everything like it used to with WM2003.

just my opinion of course, i have no proof

Default Hard Reset doesn't remove all

I too found that the WiFi connections remained and my register of made and received call timers were not reset to zero by a hard reset either!!!

Default Hard reset for the Universal (i-mate JASJAR)

I have never done a hard reset before. Could someone let me know if when I perform a hard reset will all the Windows extras remain e.g. Mobile Excel, Word, ClearVue PDF viewer, Calendar etc? I am thinking of upgrading the ROM and I am worried about losing all of the standard programs with the JASJAR.

Chris H: Pocket Word etc are all part of the main OS. Clearview PDF is an extra which can be reinstalled from the ext_rom once the system is restarted.

What i woujld suggest is to perform a hard reset, then before the ext_rom is loaded, (you'll be prompted with a 3 second delay) perform a soft reset, thenn unlock your ext rom using my good mate buzz's tool then selectivelyh install the ext_rom components you need, a list of what each one does can be found in this forum. DO NOT installl the one that has O2AUI in the name, this is the Active desktop bollox that o2 install.....
