Default Help to advice for CLEAN MDA Vario hard reset...

I'm looking at the next alternative of hard resetting my VARIO to see if it will solve my previous message not showing up problem but just wondering which of these lines in the config.sys of the extended rom can be deleted and saved, then performing the hard reset to a clean system.

this is the stock config of the Vario at the moment... anyone out there can help guide me which can be safely removed?

Hope this helps. I got sick of all the T-Mob crap particularly the boot screen and the space taken up everywhere so I first fully unlocked it with the tools the nice people put up here and then used K-Jam rom which also required some tweaking but its lots better, faster and uses less space and has WIFI G instead of B.

Then used Qtek Rom, I had to flash a new rom as I knackered the registry messing about with settings. The Qtek rom I used off the file storage on this site, did not have all the stuff that needed deleting like antivirus and skype just one extended rom file which did the clearvue pdf which I don't need. Its gor wireless G and is a bit less space hungry than the I-mate one and doesnt even have any extra .tsk screens to take up space. Well worth doing.

Oh yeah and the device can take a bit of further tweaking, for example I removed some startup items and got rid of that tray down the bottom of the home screen, lost the std. voice recog stuff and a few other bits and bobs. I used Binarys process programme and a registry tweaker and mamaged to get the lag when opening menus and progs down to almost instant, not far off my old Magician.

hey hey!!

thanks for the comprehensive breakdown...

i'm sure lots of others out there would benefit from it!

BTW, i thought if we were to put in the qtek rom, isn't it downgrading? i think i'd wait for the new qtek rom to be released before i flash the rom..

cheers and thanks again mate!

Its not downgrading, the T-Mob Rom is the slowest and has the most junk out of T-Mob, Qtek and K-Jam.

oh..

shucks... no wonder its running so slowly...

maybe i'd check the FTP server and have a think about changing to qtek..

are the Qtek ROM in the FTP site the ROM that already have the skype and the antivirus removed?

copy and paste into the extended rom drive, hard reset and i'd be laughing??!

sorry i'm just still new to this hence asking the newbie questions.. pardon my ignorance..

thanks mate for your replies..

Monkey, I'm using the Qtek rom aswell.

But how did you reconfigure your internet, email, mms, etc settings to work with T-Mobile again?

I was forced to install several cabs from the T-Mobiel Extended_Rom again, but these added some of problems I had with the T-Mobile rom again...

monkeyphonix,

Do you have a MDA Vario T-Mobile?
Do you change OS ROM from this: Qtek_9100_RUU_Prodigy_10107105_Qtek_WWE_ship.exe ?

I have one and don't like T-Mobile Skin!
Plus, this T-Mobile ROM have only 44,08MB RAM total and others ROMs have about 50MB RAM...

I want change my ROM but I think This Qtek ROM is older than mine (29/09/05), and maybe have more bugs, not?
I tried doenload iMate ROM ar Clubimate, but my Imei is T-mobile and can't?

Tell me please what is your ROM version and date and if have no problems.

Thanks

Ok, I have a Vario, with the T-Mobile badges removed (good start).

I started off by putting a K-JAM Rom on, the latest one (date wise) in WWE:

K-JAM_WWE_1010903_106_10110_ship.exe

From here...

ftp://ftp.clubimate.com/

Just clicky

Then I was doing some hacks and stuff with registry and extended ROM and managed to mess my device up, every so often a variety of .exe files came up and said missing and the phone kept crashing. But it was fine till I did the stunt work on it.

Then I put the QTEK ROM on it, its called

Qtek_9100_RUU_Prodigy_10107105_Qtek_WWE_ship.exe

it was on the FTP of this site.

Ok the K-JAM Rom runs better than the T-MOB one, it has wireless G rather than B and once you remove the antivirus extended ROM file and the SKYPE extended ROM file and do the usual tweaks its about 15% quicker than the T-MOB I'd estimate and I think more stable. Once you got the Extended ROM how you want it, you have about 5-6mb more space all in all of normal memory.

The QTEK ROM off the FTP here, did not have Skype or Antivirus. Also unlike the I-Mate ROM there was no themes you can't delete except the 2 std ones. Mines got about 43mb and 32mb respectively whilst running with no apps open, and I use the Extended ROM_2 which is 'unlocked' for apps like Voice Command and GPRS monitor which don't like the storage card.
It keeps the normal storage channels clean and mean using the Extended ROM_2.

The Qtek extended ROM I deleted all the apps from, one is Clearvue PDF Which eats a bit of space, so all I did was completely empty it and install three T-MOB .CAB files into my documents. These were the GPRS settings, the Disconnect button .CAB and one I think does MMS, 'cept MMS don't work. Nevermind. With this setup I'd say the QTEK fully tweaked is a little bit quicker then K-JAM. Maybe I'm imagining it.

Other tweaks on my QTEK rom setup are...

Unlocked Extended ROM using the prog here (thanks Buzz or whoever made it)
Got rid of Cyberon Voice Dialler crap (thanks BeyondtheTech)
Got rid of the favourites in the IE I don't need.
Got rid of some stuff from startup like the little tray at bottom of screen, don't use this at all.
Setup IE Cache to MEM card.
Setup photos and email attachments to MEM card.
Cleared all of the Extended_ROM out left me with 9.8mb space for apps like Voice Dial.
Use apps like T-MAN or MagicButton with small footprints (not mem hungry) to shut down apps that otherwise munch space.

Don't install clearvue, put Adobe on your MEM card instead.

There are other things to 'Hot Rod' your Wizard to get every ounce of speed out if it, but I can't remember them all. Most I got off here.

Hello monkeyphonix,

I already flash Qtel ROM too! Is great... more 6MB RAM!
Do you like more MS voice command instead Cyberon voice dialler? I don't know MS voice... use Cyberon and I like; maybe I will take a look at MS voice! Its free?
I erase Ext_ROM2 too, but copy files... What is "Disconnect button .CAB"?
To use ext_ROM2 you unlock it, install app and then hide it again? If not hide my SD is now Men card2... and many app store data at extROM2... have you that problem?
Now memory... after install some app like SPB pocket plus (much RAM!), 1-calc, resco file explorer, TCPMP, Tomtom5, wifiFofum, taptext, sunnysoft bk manager and phoneAlarm I have about 29MB RAM free (after a Soft reset). How I have 32MB?

Thanks and Best Regards
